Tosa to consider energy-reduction goals
Wauwatosa — Everything from roundabouts, a city transit system, "veggie oil fuel" and more clothes lines should be considered to get the city, residents and businesses to cut energy consumption by 10% by 2012, a committee says.
The energy-reduction goals are contained in a proposed energy policy that will be presented Tuesday night to the Common Council.
Among the actions that should be considered, according to the Wauwatosa Energy Committee and its policy subcommittee, which is headed by Chuck Rohrer:
• Using pilot programs, create a Wauwatosa-only transit system to supplement the county bus system and institute "car-free Sundays" on certain streets.
• Add more roundabouts at intersections.
• Implement "pay-as-you-throw" solid waste fees.
• In homes, encourage use of solar panels, water-saving toilets and clothes lines.
• Assess the feasibility of producing "Tosa veggie oil fuel" to power city trucks.
• In cooperation with other local governments, seek to reduce or eliminate fares on county buses.
