Wauwatosa opens new Hart Park athletic facilities

Wauwatosa — A ribbon-cutting was held Friday to mark the opening of new athletic facilities at Hart Park, but a fund-raising drive being led by Mayor Jill Didier is continuing, as it is less than half way toward its goal.

The $4.2 million project expanded the running track, reconstructed tennis courts, put synthetic turf on the athletic fields and made other upgrades.

In May, Didier launched an effort to raise $100,000 by July 1 toward the renovation cost through the sale of sponsorships of bleacher seats. The cost to engrave on a seat the name of a person, group of people, business or organization was $200.

As of Friday, nearly $30,000 had been raised through the sale of 145 seats, most of which were sold before the seats were installed, according to the mayor's office.

The donation is now $250 to cover the cost of shipping to Green Bay, where the engraving is done.
