Some water in 8th District basements

July 23, 2010

Alderman Craig Wilson, who represents Wauwatosa's 8th District, said he hasn't had many calls from district residents related to last night's storms but said he and his neighbors on the Menomonee River Parkway did have some water in their basements.

Wilson said in an e-mail this morning that the water was "due to yard runoff rather than drain backups."

"This is not surprising given the amount of flooding of many roads in Wauwatosa and neighboring cities," he wrote.

Wilson said that it was difficult to leave his neighborhood last night after the rain, and he saw "a number of stray cars driving past, apparently looking for alternatives to major roads that were flooded and congested."

He also said he expects to learn more about the impact of the rain, which is expected to continue today, as the day progresses and over the weekend.
