Bradley's clock about to chime

Dec. 29, 2008 11:56 a.m. | A varsity reserve game on a Saturday morning is typically no big deal.

But such a contest between Wauwatosa East and Brookfield East on Dec. 20 had a little bit more importance.

On this day, highly touted sophomore transfer Larry Bradley Jr. was allowed to play with the Red Raiders, getting one step closer to his varsity debut.

Regarded as one of the best sophomore players in the state, Bradley transferred from Milwaukee Vincent after coach Tom Diener left. He moved in with his uncle, Marshall Williams, a Wauwatosa resident, but his eligibility at East was initially denied by the WIAA Board of Control in November. The ruling was appealed by the school, and after a hearing Dec. 5, the WIAA announced Bradley would become varsity-eligible as soon as Williams' legal guardianship papers are submitted to and approved by the WIAA.

The procedure was expected to be completed earlier this week, and if it was, Bradley could play with East's varsity at 8 p.m. Friday, Dec. 26, as the Red Raiders face Christian Humble Life in the Wisconsin Basketball Yearbook Shootout at the Al McGuire Center.

Red Raiders' early returns

Dec. 24, 2008 12:01 p.m. | The defending state champion Wauwatosa East boys basketball team is off to a fast start and things are looking even better with the impending addition of sophomore Larry Bradley Jr.

NOW reporter Tom "Sky" Skibosh talked with Tosa East coach Tim Arndorfer about his early season observations.

TS: You are unbeaten in the Greater Metro Conference and 5-1 overall. What are your thoughts on your team's start?

TA: We got an early start as we only had six days of practice before the MPS tournament. We didn't play particularly well in those three games. Our comeback against Arrowhead was a remarkable achievement. We showed flashes of where we can be. I thought our best effort came in the King game, even though we didn't finish well. From then on I felt we were starting to turn a page.

TS: You try not to bring up last year's team to this year's guys. Why not?
