SCHOOLSCENE

Abby Beck, an eighth-grade student at Whitman Middle School, is the Wisconsin winner of the National Council of Teachers of English Promising Young Writers' contest.

Emily Blaser, Steven St. Charles and Sean Miller, all from Wauwatosa East High School, were named National Scholastic Art and Writing Awards Silver Award winners by the Alliance for Young Artists and Writers. Blaser won for her mixed media portfolio, St. Charles won for his illustration portfolio and Miller won for his sculpture in the architecture category.

Andrew McOlash, of Wauwatosa West High School, will participate in a co-op internship program at Harley-Davidson Motor Company.

Jackson Stuppy, a fifth-grade student at Underwood Elementary, won a 2010 Northwestern University Midwest Academic Talent Search Award. Stuppy took the Explore test through Northwestern University and placed in the 98th percentile compared to eighth-graders.

• Wauwatosa residents Morgan Lucey and Marissa Wurster, dancers with the Trinity Irish Dance Company, will begin a 2 1/2 week tour of Japan on July 6.

Michael Ellery of Wauwatosa was awarded a James Madison Fellowship by the James Madison Memorial Fellowship Foundation of Washington, D.C. James Madison Fellowships supports further study of American history by college graduates who aspire to become teachers of American history. Ellery is a teacher at Nathan Hale High School in West Allis.

CAMPUSNEWS

Megan Schneider of Wauwatosa was named to the spring 2010 dean's list at Northern Michigan University.

Megan Drews and Michael Rooney of Wauwatosa graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Stout in May.

• The following students graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire on May 22: Erik Barwick, Jane Gregory, Angela Hill, Angie Jones, Meghan Keyes, Nicholas Komula, Kathleen McInnis, Holly Perszyk and Michael Vandertie, all of Wauwatosa.

Erin Soderberg of Wauwatosa graduated from Marquette University with a master's degree in mathematics. Soderberg is the daughter of Don and Donna Soderberg of Wauwatosa and a 2002 graduate of Wauwatosa West High School.

Christopher Colla of Wauwatosa was inducted into Beta Gamma Sigma, a national honor society for students majoring in business, at Marquette University. He is a 2007 graduate of Marquette University High School, and the grandson of Josephine Colla of Wauwatosa.

Andrew Jambura of Wauwatosa was named to the 2010 spring dean's list at Saint Mary's University of Minnesota.

Emily Andrae of Wauwatosa was named to the 2010 spring dean's list at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

Sarah Lauterbach, Tiffany Wilhelm and Andrew Cimpl, all of Wauwatosa, graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay on May 15.

Ami Alvarado graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Madison with a degree in consumer science. Ami graduated with distinctive scholastic achievement and is a 2006 graduate of Wauwatosa East High School.

Elizabeth Baker of Wauwatosa played "Cantabile et Presto" by Georges Enesco on the flute during an instrumental recital at The University of Findlay in Findlay, Ohio. Elizabeth is the daughter of John and Mary Baker and a 2009 graduate of Wauwatosa East High School.
