Public invited to attend climate change discussion

The public is invited to the Senior Water Advocates Network luncheon with a lead forecaster from the National Weather Service to discuss the effects of climate change on local waters from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. June 1 at Mo's Irish Pub, 10842 W. Bluemound Road.

A meteorologist will discuss the changes in weather, the climate and what can be expected in the years to come. All ages are welcome. The cost is $15 per person.

Metal and Computer Recycling event slated for June

Responsibly recycle any type of metal item, mowers, grills, electrical cords, holiday lights and computers from 8 a.m. to noon June 2 at the Unity Church parking lot, 1717 N. 73rd St.

Wauwatosa hosts annual VillageGreen Street Fair

Wauwatosa's third annual VillageGreen Street Fair will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. June 2 on Harwood and Underwood streets.

As the only outdoor festival in Milwaukee dedicated to sustainability, the VillageGreen Street Fair raises awareness of eco-friendly products and services and provides green activities for families. The entertainment lineup includes Irish and folk tunes from Evan & Tom Leahy Band, classic rock from The Bystanders, rhythm and blues from Blues Kopf and environmental music from The Chickadees.

The Wauwatosa Farmers Market will also open its 2012 season on the day of the fair, scheduled 8 a.m. to noon. The Olde Hillcrest Neighborhood Association will hold a scrap metal drive at the same time at the Unity Church on the northwest corner of 73rd and Milwaukee Avenue.

Annual corn roast scheduled in June

Club Tap's annual corn roast is from noon to 9 p.m. June 2 and 3 with music from 1 to 6 p.m. at 8828 West North Ave.

Episcopal Church to celebrate 125th anniversary

Trinity Episcopal Church, 1717 Church St., welcomes the community to a special 9:30 a.m. Eucharist June 3, followed by historic tours and an ice cream social in the garden at 11 a.m. in celebration of the church's 125th anniversary.

Horticulture Help Line to begin 'Walk-in Wednesdays'

The Milwaukee County UW-Extension Horticulture Help Line will offer free Walk-in Wednesdays beginning June 6, through Aug. 29 from 4 to 6 p.m. at 9501 W. Watertown Plank Road, Building A.

Milwaukee County residents can bring in plant or insect samples for free identification or diagnosis of problems.

Milwaukee County UW-Extension Horticulture Help line is available for telephone calls regarding plant and insect questions from 9 a.m. to noon Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays by calling (414) 256-4664.

United Methodist Church hosts used book sale

Peace United Methodist Church, 12860 W. North Ave., is hosting a used book sale from 9 a.m. to noon June 9 in the church basement. Most books are priced at 50 cents and less.

Proceeds will support a Costa Rican mission project.

Annual Strides for Lupus event set June 9

The annual Strides for Lupus event is set for June 9. Registration begins at 9:30 a.m. and the walk begins at 11 a.m. at the Mount Mary Campus, 2900 North Menomonee River Parkway. The cost is $25 per adult and $12 per child.
