HartFest 2012 slated for June 15 and 16

HartFest 2012 is taking place beginning at 5 p.m. June 15 and at noon June 16 at the Rotary Performance Pavilion, 70th and State streets.

This year, HartFest will benefit The Wisconsin Humane Society, The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, Heart of Gold, the Wauwatosa East Boosters Club and the National Spinal Cord Injury Association.

UFO researcher and historian to speak in Wauwatosa

Richard Dolan, researcher and historian of UFOs will speak on "The UFO Cover-Up and You" and autograph his books from 3 to 6 p.m. June 16 at Grantosa Room, 2303 N. Mayfair Road.

Dolan is the author of "UFOs and the National Security State," and "A.D. After Disclosure: The People's Guide to Life After Contact."

Jimmy's Island Grill hosts first Reggae Splash

The first Reggae Splash at Jimmy's Island Grill and Iguana Bar, 2303 N. Mayfair Road, is scheduled for 3 to 7 p.m. June 17.

The event features live reggae music by Kojo and a pig roast.

Event scheduled to teach children about nature

Teaching artists from the Wilson Center, Danceworks and the Wisconsin Conservatory of Music, as well as naturalists from the Wehr Nature Center will help kids discover the sounds, patterns, colors and rhythms in the outdoors.

Activities will be held both indoors and outdoors from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. June 18 to June 22 for students entering grades one through six in the fall.

Milwaukee Choristers hold summer audition days

The Milwaukee Choristers will hold auditions for new members June 20, July 11, Aug. 1 and Aug 29 at United Methodist Church, 1529 Wauwatosa Ave.

On the four days, auditions will begin at 6 p.m. by appointment only. Those appointments can be made by calling (414) 354-1933. A potential member must be a high school graduate or at least 18.

Dr. James B. Kinchen, Jr., director of choral activities at the University of Wisconsin-Parkside, has been conductor of the Choristers since 1993. He will conduct the private auditions and advises that no prepared material is necessary.

Kinchen will ask the candidates to sing a familiar song and sight-sing a simple melody. During the audition, he will test vocal range and evaluate tonal memory.

The Choristers rehearse weekly, usually starting in early September, from 7:15 to 9:45 p.m. at Wauwatosa Avenue United Methodist Church.

Zoological Society of Milwaukee schedules annual ball

The Zoo Ball is slated for 6 p.m. June 23 at the Milwaukee County Zoo, 10001 W. Bluemound Road.

Prices start at $300 per person. Proceeds benefit the Zoological Society of Milwaukee, a nonprofit organization with a mission to conserve endangered species, educate the public about wildlife and the environment, and support the zoo.

The black-tie event includes a multipronged auction that features prizes such as spa specials, sports tickets and transportation on American Airlines.

Free garden tours available in June

Our Very Special Gardens, an event that features free tours of gardens in Wauwatosa, is from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. June 23 and June 25, beginning at the Kneeland-Walker House of the Wauwatosa Historical Society, 7406 W. Hillcrest Drive.

The gardens complement the late Victorian 1890s Queen Ann Style house, a designated Wauwatosa and Milwaukee County Landmark, which is on the National Register of Historic Places.
