Mount Mary College hosts joint gospel concert

Mount Mary College will host "A Reason to Worship," a gospel music concert at 7 p.m. April 27 at Mount Mary College's Campus, 2900 N. Menomonee River Parkway.

The concert will include performances by Gospel choirs from Mount Mary College, Marquette University, UW-Milwaukee and Messmer High School. Each choir will perform individually and will also join together for a finale presentation. The concert will feature music selections from nationally-known gospel artists as well as accompanying performances by Beverly Moore, a renowned dancer, and In The Dance Café, a local praise dance group.

Art studio celebrates with grand opening

The Arté Wine and Painting Studio is hosting a grand opening April 27 and April 28 at 7511 Harwood Ave. There will be live music, free food and raffles.

The weekend will also feature art activities, including a "Battle of the Artists" competition, a Collaborative Community Circle Mural, and the kickoff of the charity fundraiser "Arté 4 Good."

Wauwatosa Library hosts spring book sale

The Wauwatosa Library is hosting its spring book sale from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. April 28 and 1 to 4 p.m. April 29 at the library, 7635 W. North Ave.

There will be thousands of books, CDs and DVDs on sale.

Civic Center to house 'Tosa Green Summit'

The third annual Tosa Green Summit will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. April 28 at the Wauwatosa Civic Center, 7725 W. North Avenue.

The event is a free, informational open house to learn how to make the community green and sustainable. Over 20 exhibitors will provide awareness and education on topics ranging from home energy, conservation, water, gardening, transportation and food. It will also feature the documentary "Bag It," which discusses the effects of plastic bags on the environment.

Children's Theatre to present two plays

The Children's Theatre of Wauwatosa will present "Let's Keep the Dream Alive" and "The Musicians" by Patsy Ford Simms performed by the African-American Children's Theatre.

"Let's Keep the Dream Alive" is a story about the life and achievements of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. "The Musicians" features the contributions of African-American musicians throughout history. Both musicals will be presented as the last production of the Children's Theatre's 2011-2012 series at 2 p.m. April 28 at Wauwatosa East High School, 7500 Milwaukee Ave.

Tickets cost $4 each and are available at the box office, which opens at 1:30 p.m. Seating is on a first-come basis. For additional information, contact Lois Weber at (414) 476-6311.

West High School Presents musical and children's party

The curtain will rise on the Wauwatosa West High School Trojan Players' musical production of "Peter Pan," at 7 p.m. April 27 and 28 and May 4 and 5 and 2 p.m. April 29 in the theater at West High School, 11400 W. Center St.

Tickets for the performances of "Peter Pan" are $15 for adults, $12.50 for senior citizens, $10 for students and $5 for children age 5 and younger.

From 1 to 2:30 p.m. April 21, children 10 and younger are welcome to attend the Pixies and Pirates party hosted by the West Trojan Players. Children will follow a treasure map and participate in an afternoon of themed songs, games and crafts; pirate or pixie fairy costumes are encouraged. The costumed cast of "Peter Pan" will be there for a meet and greet. All children must be accompanied by an adult. Tickets are $10 for children and $5 for adults.

Senior Center features stories of Wisconsin's past

Erika Janik, author of "Odd Wisconsin: Amusing and Unlikely Stories from Wisconsin's Past" will share historical Wisconsin stories at 6:30 p.m. April 30 at the Hart Park Senior Center, 7300 Chestnut St.

The cost is $7 for members and $12 for nonmembers.

Series of shows offered at Sampson Planetarium

"Using Planispheres to Find Your Way Around the Summer Sky" will be the topic of a free, one-hour planetarium presentation at 7 p.m. May 2 and 9 at the Gary E. Sampson Planetarium located in Wauwatosa West High School, 11400 W. Center St.

"Using Planispheres" is the last in the series of presentations held each month during the school year.

Guests will learn how to use star maps and planispheres to find their own way around the night sky. Admission will be limited to the first 25 guests, so reservations are strongly recommended. Reservations can be made by calling (414) 773-3390. There is no admission charge, but donations will assist in supporting public programming.

Roosevelt Elementary schedules ballroom and tap dancing

"Mad Hot Ballroom and Tap Dancing" will be presented by Roosevelt Elementary School from 4 to 4:30 p.m. May 3 in the Civic Center Auditorium, 7725 W. North Ave.

The event is for all ages and everyone is welcome.
