Welcome to your new NOW

Revamped paper adds new features

Aug. 25, 2010

The issue of Wauwatosa NOW that you're holding in your hands has a different look - and a different feel - than last week's paper.

After listening to our readers about how we cover the city, we're introducing some improvements to the newspaper. We've added new features designed to provide more local information and to boost interaction between you and us.

Among the new additions:

• "Ask Now," a column that answers readers' questions about problems or issues in the city;

• "In a Tosa Minute," an at-a-glance look at what local government is up to;

• "What'd It Sell For," a listing of recent home sales;

• "Business Spotlight," a regular feature on interesting area business;

• "Someone You Should Know," a look at people who are making a difference in the community; and

• "Grab a Bite," a monthly column that profiles area restaurants.

We've also added a couple of new features in our Sports section. Veteran sports writer Tom "Sky" Skibosh will give his weekly perspective on the Tosa sports scene in his "Sky's Take" column. People involved in athletics who don't normally get their names in the paper will be the focus of the "Away from the Limelight" feature.

Your input is welcome

In addition, there is a new Opinion page that will include local editorials, guest columnists and - most important - your chance to weigh in on local issues important to you.

We think it's important to have a little fun with our readers and to get them involved in the newspaper as much as possible. That's why we've added a Mystery Photo Contest in which you can win prizes by figuring out where our photographers have been.

But while the look and some of the content of the newspaper is changing, there is one thing that isn't: Our commitment to providing readers with the best possible coverage of the community. Reporters Stefanie Scott, Alan Hamari and Sky Skibosh will continue their outstanding reporting on what's happening in city government and the schools.

NOW is everywhere

Perhaps as important as the new look and the new features is the fact that starting today, the paper will be readily available throughout the city.

From Cranky Al's and Swan Pharmacy to your local Walgreens and Pick 'n Save stores, you can now purchase a copy of Wauwatosa NOW at more than 40 local outlets.

If you already receive NOW in your Thursday Journal Sentinel, you will continue to do so as part of your subscription. However, if you don't subscribe to the Thursday Journal Sentinel but want to receive NOW, our circulation department can make that happen. Give them a call at (414) 224-2222.

If you have suggestions for how we can improve the paper, I'd like to hear from you. Call me directly at (262) 446-6630 or send an e-mail to mmaley@cninow.com.

You also can meet us in person on Saturday morning at the Tosa Farmers Market in the Village. Our staff will be there from 8 to 10 a.m. to hand out cookies and newspapers, and to hear your comments.
