Several people attempting to shoplift baby formula and other items told a grocery store security guard that they were armed last week.
According to the Wauwatosa police report:
The security guard who tried to stop a group of people from taking $128 worth of baby formula they hadn't paid for from Pick 'n Save, 1717 Mayfair Road, was told by one them that she had a gun, and he backed off when he saw a man with her reach into his coat.
The incident occurred at 2:10 p.m. Sept. 16.
A man had taken two garbage cans and put them into carts being pushed by two women. They each had infants sitting in the carts.
The women stocked the cans with baby formula, then the man pushed the cart out of the store to an waiting vehicle after a brief encounter with the guard.
They took the babies from the carts but abandoned the items, which also included diapers and other merchandise, a total value of $421. The woman who said she was armed had stashed five cans of formula in her shoulder bag.
