Entrepreneurs sell green home, wedding services

Oct. 13, 2010

A couple of entrepreneurs hope to bring in a little green in the form of money while inspiring customers to add some green to their own lives - as in sustainability.

Go Green Design Center has opened in the former Drew's Variety Store building, 7511 Harwood Ave. Owner Karen Wilman provides a showroom and architectural design services for green building products and energy-efficient features for the home.

Andrea Savage is operating Pollen, a business that takes a green approach to wedding and event planning, out of the Go Green space. Wedding dress resales, finding outdoor spaces for ceremonies and receptions and providing flower arrangements are some of the services she's providing. Savage's background is in the floral design industry. She wanted to transition her skills into the growing green market and expand to all aspects of planning.

"It's very special to me to work with a bride and be part of their day," she said.

But that day goes by so fast, she hopes to make brides aware that they can do it with a little less impact to the environment.
