Police bust grow-house after anonymous tip

Oct. 26, 2010

Two people have been arrested for growing marijuana in Wauwatosa.

The district attorney is expected to issue charges in the case Tuesday afternoon.

According to Wauwatosa police:

Police got a tip through Crime Stoppers of a home in the 6600 block of Hillside Lane that smelled of marijuana and had frequent visitors coming and going.

Officers checked out the apartment and found cardboard, dark film, blankets and blinds covering the windows. They also saw water and mold stains, which can indicate a home-grow operation.

Police executed a search warrant and found grow lights with marijuana plants underneath. No one was home, so a copy of the warrant and officer contact information was left behind about 3 p.m. Oct. 15.

The next morning, police got a call from the apartment tenants - a 21-year-old woman and 22-year-old man - saying their home had been burglarized. The woman was crying and said the burglars had brought in dirt, soil and plants.

Police let them know that they had been the ones in the apartment.

The couple said they actually live in another apartment. But they had a pit bull in the bathroom and guinea pig running around the residence.
