Huge Tosa voter turnout sides with Republicans

Wauwatosa had significant voter turnout Tuesday with 74.2 percent of the city's registered voters casting 24,338 ballots.
Republicans had a big night with Scott Walker becoming the next Wisconsin governor, Ron Johnson unseating Russ Feingold for U.S. Senate, and Leah Vukmir winning the election for the 5th District State Senate seat.
Wauwatosa votes mimicked that of the state totals with 52 percent voting for Johnson and Walker, while Democratic candidates Russ Feingold and Tom Barrett got 48 percent of local votes.
As for Vukmir, she won by a very slim margin when considering only votes cast by Tosans. She brought in 28 votes more than incumbent State Sen. Jim Sullivan. Vukmir got 50 percent of the vote to Sullivan's 49.9 percent in Wauwatosa voting wards. Looking at the entire 5th District, her win becomes a bigger 54 percent.
In past elections, Wauwatosa has been split nearly even when it comes to votes cast for Democrats and Republicans.
