Volunteers needed to clear teasel from Monarch Trail

Nov. 16, 2010

Volunteers are needed to help clear teasel, an invasive plant, from the Monarch Trail on Wednesday morning.

Horticulturist Carrie Hennessy and her crew from Menomonee Falls-based Johnson's Nursery will be removing teasel, but they could use some assistance. Teasel crowds out the native species that support Monarch butterflies during their annual migration, as well as other birds and bugs that live on the County Grounds.

Volunteers can give an hour or stay for the entire day. Bring sturdy gloves and a pair of loppers and show up at 9 a.m. at the Milwaukee County Park Department, 9480 Watertown Plank Road. If it rains, work will be rescheduled for Thursday.
