Wauwatosa's Mercy Academy to hold open house Feb. 4

Anyone interested in learning more about Mercy Academy is invited to attend an informal open house Feb. 4 at the school, 2160 N. Wauwatosa Ave.

Before the open house, Mass will be offered at 8 a.m., followed by a First Friday social at 8:30 a.m. Coffee, juice, baked goods and fresh fruit will be served.

Mercy parents will be available to answer questions about the school. Preschool children also may attend a story time from 8:30 to 9 a.m. with a Mercy teacher. Headmaster James Simpson will escort visitors to classrooms to briefly meet the school's teachers and students.

Mercy Academy offers small classes, individualized attention and a classical education in the Catholic tradition. The curriculum includes phonics instruction, Saxon Math, Great Books and Latin.

Spaghetti dinner, auction are part of choir fundraiser

The Wauwatosa West High School Choir will host a spaghetti dinner and silent auction from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Feb. 11 at the high school, 11400 W. Center St.

Tickets are $10 for adults and $7 for students and seniors. Proceeds will help raise money for the choir's spring trip to New Orleans.

Advance purchase is required. Tickets are available through choir members or can be obtained by contacting Judy Zanton at (414) 535-0220.

Parents can learn about Tosa charter school Jan. 31

Parents and guardians interested in learning more about Wilson Elementary and the Tosa School of Health Science and Technology charter school will have the opportunity Jan. 31.

Principal Mike Leach will host information sessions at 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. at Wilson Elementary/Tosa School of Health Science and Technology, 1060 Glenview Ave. Parents and guardians attending the information sessions will also have the opportunity to tour classrooms.

Light pollution is topic of next planetarium show

The Gary E. Sampson Planetarium will present "Let There Be Night: Light Pollution" at 7 p.m. Feb. 2 at Wauwatosa West High School, 11400 W. Center St.

There is no admission charge, but donations will be accepted.
