Man says he was robbed at gunpoint on 73rd Street in Wauwatosa

May 18, 2011

A 33-year-old Wauwatosa man said he was robbed by a man holding a shotgun last month but didn't report the incident until last week because he was scared.

According to the Wauwatosa police report:

The man was walking in the 2100 block of North 73rd Street about 1 a.m. April 30 when he saw a white and gray vehicle pull up and park on the west side of the street.

He was wearing headphones, and when he heard footsteps behind him, he thought it was somebody out jogging. A man then told him to get on the ground, and the man complied. When he turned to look at the perpetrator, the man had a double-barreled shotgun pointed at his head.

The robber took the man's cell phone, two wallets and his backpack, which contained 20 CDs and a laptop computer. Total loss is estimated at $685.

The man said he was scared so he didn't call police right away, and that he eventually reported the robbery May 10 after his father and his neighbor urged him to do so.
