East Tosa master plan adopted

July 6, 2011

After nearly three years of intensive talk about the future of North Avenue in East Tosa, a master plan to guide development was adopted unanimously Tuesday by the Common Council.

Adoption means the city is generally supportive of the ideas provided for improving traffic flow and pedestrian safety, creating public gathering spaces and marketing the district to attract businesses that serve the surrounding neighborhood. It doesn't allocate any of the $5.2 million the plan calls for spending over 15 years to make the improvements between 76th and 60th streets.

Those discussions likely will come as part of the 2012 budget deliberations and those for future budgets.

Two weeks ago, numerous East Tosa residents and business leaders urged the council to back the plan during a public hearing.
