Sept. 26, 2011

Mercy Academy

The fifth- and sixth-grades are studying the Revolutionary War in history class. On Sept. 23, the class had a tea party. Students arrived in colonial costume and partook of tea, scones, crumpets, savories and pastries. Proper English tea etiquette was reviewed. During the tea party, students engaged in a political debate, Whigs vs. Tories, to discuss colonial grievances against England. A surprise happened in the final moments of the debate - the redcoats (seventh-grade boys) entered the classroom, presented the Writs of Assistance, and began to search colonists' belongings. Evidence of smuggled goods was discovered, and the offender taken off to jail.

Our Redeemer Lutheran

One hundred forty fifth- through eighth-grade students packed nutritious meals for hungry children in Haiti on Sept. 15. They packed enough meals to feed 72 children for a year. The meals will be delivered by the Feed My Starving Children organization.

The fish fry, Ladies Night Out, rummage sale and Spring Luncheon help the Christian Women raise money.

Coats in good condition may be brought to the school office through Oct. 7.
