Lincoln Elementary
A Principal's Chat will give parents the opportunity to discuss school happenings with Principal Dean Nemoir at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday.
Madison Elementary
The PTA will sponsor a Family Fun Night from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Feb. 3. Carnival-style games, prizes, snacks, a bounce house and temporary tattoos will be part of the evening. All children must be accompanied by an adult.
McKinley Elementary
An open house and art show will be held from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Jan. 19.
Mercy Academy
The Christmas season continued last week at Mercy Academy as several grades held Epiphany parties to mark the arrival of the Three Kings who came to honor Jesus in Bethlehem. First-graders made their own kingly crowns, learned about the gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh, ate treats and sang "We Three Kings From Orient Are." On Feb. 17, Mercy Academy will be sponsor a talk by Dr. Ray Guarendi at the Italian Conference Center in Milwaukee. "Dr. Ray" is the humorous host of a national radio program, "Ask Dr. Ray," which is broadcast on Sirius Radio. The author of several books on raising children, Dr. Ray also has appeared as a guest many times on TV shows ranging from Oprah to the CBS Morning News. Our Redeemer Lutheran
A number of students distinguished themselves in the spelling bee held Friday. They are: Jacob Kohlmeier, Natalie Wessel, Claire Zempel, Rebecca Tait, DeLon Bracey Jr. and Nathan Blischke - grade five; Joshua Hofer, Hunter Sadler, Naomi Spotts, Ben Mahn, Tori Knueppel and Kennedi Fisher - grade six; Chris Beck, Kayla Dixon, Matt Grotkiewicz, Kayla Jackson, Ellie L'Heureux and Sam Thomann - grade seven; Jalen Franklin, Michaela Kohlmeier, Michael Leapley, Ally Mitchell, Danielle Nelson and Tevin Sharp - grade eight.
St. John
Students have welcomed two boys from China into the eighth-grade classroom. The boys plan to attend high school at Wisconsin Lutheran and are auditing eighth-grade classes second semester as a form of English immersion to assist in their high school success.
St. Joseph
Catholic Schools Week is Jan. 29 through Feb. 3. St. Joseph will host an open house and ice cream social at 6:30 p.m. Feb. 2.
St. Jude the Apostle
The annual Spelling Bee for middle school students was held last week and the winner, 8th grader Jacob Webb, will represent St. Jude at the regional competition to be held later in January. Coming in second was 7th grader Erin Kleber, and third, 8th grader Peter Szews. In other news, the Knights of Columbus have announced the grade-level winners for the "True Meaning of Christmas" poster contest. First-place winners from grades one through four are Lucia Grablewski, Michael Rentmeester, Andrew Grebe and Ellie Tews. Their posters will be entered in a regional competition.
Tosa School of the Trades
An open house will be held at 6:30 p.m. Thursday.
Wauwatosa East High
The PTA, in collaboration with the Medical College of Wisconsin, will present "Is Your Teen Stressed and Anxious? You Are not Alone" at 6:30 p.m. Thursday. The presenter will be David Cipriano, Ph.D., assistant professor in the Medical College Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Medicine. Cipriano will discuss how to identify stress, how to talk with teens about stressors, what to do if a teen is in trouble and where parents/teens can get help. Refreshments will be served.
Wauwatosa STEM
On Friday, students will take the classroom to the ski slopes at Sunburst Ski Area. The activity coordinates with the science curriculum unit on "Body as a Machine" and physics.
Wauwatosa West High
An art show reception will be held at 6 p.m. Thursday.
