Eisenhower Elementary
Second-graders will take a field trip to the Milwaukee Art Museum on Feb. 21. The students will learn about storytelling in art and have an opportunity to write stories about the art they observed.
Jefferson Elementary
The PTA Science Night will be held from 6:30 to 8 p.m. March 7 at the school.
Lincoln Elementary
Fourth- and fifth-graders learned about a career in promoting during a Brown Bag Lunch session.Kevin Hardman, launch director for Milwaukee BikeShare, discussed his career promoting bicycling and better communities. Hardman manages an organization that is working to launch a large-scale bicycle sharing system in Milwaukee. He displayed a bicycle, explained the concept of bicycle sharing and discussed how his career has evolved. The Brown Bag Lunch program gives students a chance to learn about professions from local community members.
Longfellow Middle School
The "We Are Longfellow — Many Faces, One Community" multicultural fair was held Feb. 21. The event featured live jazz, ethnic dancing and musical solos and ensembles; cultural displays created by World Language students; arts and crafts; games, such as Chinese tangrams and El Trompo (tops); a video of students discussing the fair's theme; and an opportunity to take an imaginary trip around the world, playing games and doing activities for each continent.
Madison Elementary
The spring dance will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. March 7.
McKinley Elementary
Tie Dye Day was held Feb. 26. Brightly-colored patterns were the "in" look for Spirit Day. Staff and students had an opportunity to share their school spirit by donning a variety of tie-dyed apparel. In other news, "Hollow Earth" author Carole Barrowman visited the school Feb. 25. Her book is the youth selection for Wauwatosa's All-City Read.
Our Redeemer Lutheran
Third-graders at Our Redeemer continue to be involved in First Stage Theatre education units. Prior to and following each First Stage Theatre production that Our Redeemer third-graders attend, educators from First Stage come into the classrooms and prepare and then debrief the students about what they have experienced during the theater production.
Roosevelt Elementary
A PTA meeting will be held March 4.
Washington Elementary
The First Stage Touring Company performed an original, 30-minute show for students. Entering its second year, the Touring Company promotes its mission of transforming lives through theater.
Wauwatosa East High
In place of Turnabout, Best Buddies hosted the All-school Friendship Fling ... Hollywood Style on Feb. 22. DJ Mike provided entertainment.
Wauwatosa Montessori
Pizza lunch day will be held March 7.
Wauwatosa STEM
Senior kindergartners and first-graders will attend a performance of "Anatole" at the First Stage Children's Theatre in conjunction with their study of performing arts as literature.
Wauwatosa West High
Juniors and their parents participated in an informative evening of workshops and presentations at the Junior Parent Information Night and College Fair on Feb. 26.Admissions representatives from Wisconsin private colleges and the University of Wisconsin system were available.
Whitman Middle
Students collected 141 pair of jeans to donate for use by people who are homeless. Grade six collected 31 pairs of jeans, grade seven, 66, and grade eight, 44. That means the seventh grade hangs on to the traveling trophy for most jeans collected.
Wilson Elementary
Senior kindergartners will perform "The Mitten Play," adapted from Jan Brett's children's book "The Mitten," on Friday. Several animals sleep snugly in a lost mitten until a bear sneezes. The students will use their personal stuffed animals. In other news, Mike Rohde, author of "The Sketchnote Handbook" presented The Sketchnoting Workshopto fourth- and fifth-graders. The students learned how visual note-taking can help them process information.
