Boobytrap at Hoyt Park snares squad car

June 8, 2009

Vandals continue to target Hoyt Park, this time apparently setting a trap that damaged a police car.

Wooden planks with nails sticking out were put down across a path used primarily by police and park workers. One of the nails got lodged in a squad car tire and split it in half. The officer had to wait for a tow truck.

According to a Wauwatosa Police Department report:

At 11:44 p.m. Thursday, an officer noticed that the chain had been loosened on the pool house, 1800 Swan Blvd., so he drove around the facility. After he heard the tire pop, he saw the boards, which were covered by weeds in an attempt to hide them. On the underside, "anarchy" was written on the boards.

Although the path is not open for public vehicle use, many people use it for walking and bicycling.
