Flu vaccines available for some Tuesday at City Hall

Nov. 6, 2009

Swine flu vaccines will be given to certain population groups Tuesday afternoon at Wauwatosa City Hall.

The Wauwatosa Health Department is receiving a limited supply of vaccines - mostly in the injectable form - to protect residents against the H1N1 virus. Shots will be given from 3 to 6 p.m. to the following people: pregnant women; health care workers with direct patient contact; children ages 6 months to 4 years old; children 5 to 18 with medical conditions that put them at high risk for flu-related complications and people who care for infants 6 months and younger.

Those people who do not fall into the target groups will be turned away, the department said.

Because large crowds are expected, city staff have set up a traffic flow plan. Drivers should enter the City Hall parking lot from Wauwatosa Avenue and exit onto North Avenue.

Other flu clinics in the city have attracted hundreds of people, some of whom waited for hours to get vaccinations.
