House fire causes $115,000 in damage

April 28, 2010

A fire in a two-family home in the 600 block of North 66th Street caused about $115,000 in damage Monday night.

One of the occupants of the home also suffered from minor smoke inhalation but there were no other injuries.

"On arrival, we encountered heavy smoke conditions in the surrounding neighborhood," Wauwatosa Assistant Fire Chief Mike Anton said. "One occupant was outside home and reporting a fire in the basement."

Firefighters had to ventilate smoke from the building, place hoses to extinguish the fire and conduct a thorough search of the two-story building because it was not known if anyone was still inside.

Everyone had gotten out of the building and the fire was contained to the basement and first-floor kitchen. However, the fire caused heavy smoke damage throughout the house.

The state fire marshal is investigating the cause of the blaze.
