Ask NOW: Will city enforce leaf-raking?

Published on: 11/26/2012

DPW director says failure to rake leaves probably not big enough issue for city to get involved with

Issue: A reader asked whether Wauwatosa residents are required to rake their leaves, and, if so, what can be done to enforce the policy.

Status: Bill Porter, director of public works, said the city Property Maintenance Section gets involved when there are general issues about properties not being maintained, such as when trash bins are overflowing or there is junk in the yard. However, failure to rake leaves probably does not qualify as an issue that would force the city to invoke property maintenance codes, he explained.

Residents who notice a yard they feel is not being maintained can contact the Property Maintenance Section at (414) 479-8981 or file a complaint online at Wauwatosa.net/requesttracker.aspx.
