March 19, 2014

Two students from Wauwatosa East High School won awards for their photography in the Scholastic Art and Writing Awards national competition.

Founded in 1923, the Scholastic Art and Writing Awards are awarded by the Alliance for Young Artists & Writers and is the longest-running recognition program for creative teenagers in the United States.

The awards recognize student achievement in the visual arts.

Junior Analise Billings won a Gold Key, and junior Lydia Schuman won a Silver Key. Billings' work will be displayed in the NYC Gallery.

Gold Key awards are given to students whose work demonstrates the highest levels of originality, technique and personal vision. Silver Key awards are given to students whose work demonstrates achievement worthy of recognition on the regional level.

The award ceremony will be held in June at Carnegie Hall.
