Elderly pedestrian suffers broken bones in collision

An elderly Wauwatosa man who uses a walker suffered numerous broken bones after he was struck by a vehicle while crossing 124th Street at North Avenue last week.

According to the Wauwatosa police report:

No citations have been issued. The driver, a 54-year-old Wauwatosa man, said he didn't see the 79-year-old man, who was dressed in dark clothing, until it was too late. He tried to stop his Volkswagen Passat but the pedestrian came up the hood of the car, struck the windshield and fell back into the street.

There are no crosswalks and the elderly man was trying to get from his home to the Sendik's across the street Nov. 29.

The man was still in Froedtert Hospital as of Sunday, but his injuries weren't expected to be life-threatening. He suffered a broken clavicle, wrist, finger and leg.
