Christ King

Students are gearing up for another exciting Discovery Day. On May 4, presenters and instructors from different areas of interest will be on hand to guide the kids through everything from rock climbing and bowling to cake decorating and more. The older students have made their selections, and stimulating events have been scheduled for our younger kids.

Jefferson Elementary

The All-School Skate will be held at Incredi-Roll Skate & Family Fun Center, 10928 W. Oklahoma Ave., from 4 to 6 p.m. April 19.

Lincoln Elementary

The Lincoln PTO and Action Recyclers have teamed up to earn "Cash for Lincoln" from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday. Lincoln families, friends and neighbors are invited to donate recyclable items containing aluminum, unprepared iron, brass, aluminum breakage, sheet iron, stainless steel, copper, cast iron and a variety of miscellaneous material. Action Recycling has a long list of items containing recyclable material, such as chimes, bed frames, doorknobs, window blinds, grills, sinks, condensers, frying pans, laptops and much more. Donations can be dropped off at Lincoln School or Action Recyclables, 5329 W. State St., or picked up for free. For information, call Mike Arney at (414) 771-8850.

Longfellow Middle

Longfellow registration for the 2012-13 school year will be held June 20 and 21.

McKinley Elementary

Family Math Night, a free event for McKinley families, from 6 to 8 p.m. April 19, will feature a variety of math-related activities, including games and art projects. In other news, the school is continuing the Walking School Bus program. In a Walking School Bus, a group of children walk to school together under the supervision of an adult leader. The program promotes good health, a cleaner environment and reduced traffic near the school.

Mercy Academy

The seventh- and eighth-graders donated $100 to Mercy Academy's matching grant campaign, which is an effort to raise $25,000 that will be matched by several donors to the school. The students' contribution resulted from a Lenten penny project, as well as a desire to show support for the classical education they receive. The donation also was inspired by Pope Benedict's charitable theme for Lent 2012. In other news, Mercy's award-winning forensics team will celebrate its first-place win at the state tournament with a pizza party. Students in all grades are busy preparing for the 12th Annual Talent Show, which will be held in May.

Roosevelt Elementary

Families, neighbors and staff will enjoy an all-school all-you-can-eat pancake breakfast Friday morning.

St. Jude the Apostle

Success in student service projects can be measured both in the donations made to various organizations, as well as in the awareness raised among students of others in need. In addition to gathering supplies for overseas missionaries, to date, students have collected 3,200 items for the Food Drive, more than 200 coats for Condella's Coats for Kids Drive, $300 for the parish's Families in Need fund, $350 for Repairers of the Breach, more than 2,000 books for Children's Hospital and $350 for the Herma Heart Center.

Underwood Elementary

Fourth-graders took a field trip to the Capitol building in Madison on Wednesday to observe state government in action and learn about the role of good citizens. On April 19, fifth-graders will attend the fourth annual Weather Day at Miller Park. Students will learn about meteorology from Storm Team 4 meteorologists, visit with Bernie Brewer and the Klement's Racing Sausages, participate in a science fair featuring Discovery World and the Learning Shop, and watch the Brewers take on the Dodgers. On Friday, fifth-graders will learn about sixth grade and middle school by visiting Whitman Middle School during the afternoon.

Washington Elementary

A PTA meeting was held Tuesday. April 19 is "Team Day," and April 20 is High Interest Day.

Wauwatosa East High

On March 28, students from East and West high schools participated in a mock school board meeting sponsored by the Wauwatosa Youth Commission. Students discussed issues ranging from random student drug testing to adopting a district policy allowing students and staff to use their own electronic devices in schools.

Wauwatosa Montessori

Summer school will include two Wauwatosa Montessori School opportunities:

Jump Into Children's House: For incoming Montessori junior kindergarten students as well as Wauwatosa Montessori students who completed Children's House JK in 2011-12.

Montessori Exploration: Students will examine themes in a variety of areas including geology, zoology, geography, botany and history/civilization.

Summer school registration begins April 28.

Wauwatosa West High

West's Future Business Leaders of America members traveled to LaCrosse in early April to compete at the Wisconsin FBLA State Leadership Conference. In the digital video production event, a trio of 10th-graders from West created a video about the dangers of texting and driving, which placed fifth in the competition.

Wilson Elementary/STEM

The Wilson/WSTEM High Interest Day will feature workshops on food, science, sports, art, performing arts, camping out and healthy living habits all day Friday.
