Christ King

The middle school forensics team brought home a third-place overall team trophy after competing in the medium-sized school division at a meet at Longfellow on Friday. More than 600 students competed. Some Christ King students earned second-place medals in Group Interpretation and Special Events. On Saturday, at Holy Trinity Middle School in Kewaskum, a sixth-grade student took home a second-place medal in Poetry. Several students have already qualified for entry in Wisconsin's MLFA State Tournament and more are expected to.

Eisenhower Elementary

Teachers will be incorporating the Dr. Seuss' Birthday/Read Across America theme into their lesson plans Friday. Also that day, there will be an all-school art show and gallery night in the gym, followed by a movie shown by the PTA.

Lincoln Elementary

Third-graders will take a trip to the Lutheran Home on Tuesday.

Mercy Academy

School families are raising money to match a $25,000 challenge fund that has been offered to the school by several donors. For each dollar raised by April 4, Mercy Academy will receive a dollar match. The total benefit to the school could be $50,000. Mercy Academy also has entered into a half-price Catholic school tuition agreement with Relevant Radio. Through the program, tuition costs at Mercy will be reduced by 50 percent for up to three new students who enroll during the 2012-13 school year. For information, call Jim Simpson at (414) 258-0881. At 7 p.m. March 1, guest speaker Diane Schlosser will present "Theology of the Body @home" to parents. All are welcome to attend and hear practical advice for parents about adolescent concerns.

St. John

On Feb. 14, students in 4-year-old kindergarten through grade eight participated in the American Heart Association's Hoops/Jump for Heart. The students raised $3,330, close to $1,000 more than they raised last year.

St. Joseph

Every year since 1998, third-graders at St. Joseph School have reached out to babies in the Milwaukee area. The students have a real heart for babies, so this is a perfect service project for them. Not only do they practice the church's teaching on social justice, but they use their language skills to write and present P.A. announcements and to make posters to advertise the project, which is run in partnership with the Christian Women Society. For years, the Christian Women have supported the Christ Child Society and asked the school to partner its efforts with theirs.

Underwood Elementary

First-graders will take a field trip to the planetarium at Wauwatosa West High School on Tuesday to see "Follow the Drinking Gourd." Students will learn about planets, stars, the sun and, most importantly, how the slaves once used the stars to find freedom.

Wauwatosa Catholic

Each Wednesday during Lent, an atmosphere of quiet, reverence and reflection will be created. Students will enter the school with dimmed lights and quiet music playing, without talking. Upon reaching their homeroom, they will write or draw in their Lenten journal, answering the question "During Lent, this week I can be more like Jesus by ..."

Wauwatosa East High

The Wisconsin School Music Association District Solo & Ensemble Festival will be held at East on Saturday.

Wauwatosa West High

The Wauwatosa Kiwanis Club and East and West high school Key Clubs will host the Wauwatosa Kiwanis Scholarship Pancake Breakfast on Sunday at West.
