Christ King

CK eighth-graders traveled to Washington, D.C. from Sunday, May 4 through Thursday, May 8th, visiting many sites in and around the nation's capital, including the National Mall, Arlington Cemetery and Mount Vernon. In addition, students were granted a White House tour.

Eisenhower Elementary

Students and their families participated in a walking school bus Wednesday, May 7, for National Bike to School Day. Upon arriving at school, they "chalked the walk" by signing their name on the playground and path. During the day, students had an opportunity to take a walking break with their teacher and classmates.

Jefferson Elementary

Fifth-graders from Wilson and Jefferson will camp overnight at Camp Whitcomb/Mason in Hartland Thursday, May 8. The camp program highlights environmental concerns, introduces children to various outdoor camping skills and includes a variety of recreational activities as well as educational games.

Lincoln Elementary

Second-graders will take a field trip to the Mitchell Park Conservatory (The Domes) Thursday, May 8, at 9 a.m.

Longfellow Middle

Longfellow students performed Disney's "Little Mermaid, Jr.," a musical based on the familiar Hans Christian Anderson fairy tale, Saturday, May 3. A host of characters — human and marine — sang and danced their way through favorite Disney songs. Tickets: $6 adults; $5 seniors and sixth- through twelfth-grade students; $2 children.

Madison Elementary

The corners of the school campus were decorated with banners and signs for National Bike to School Day events, Wednesday, May 7.

McKinley Elementary

Tents were set up on the large playground Wednesday, May 7, for National Bike to School Day. The Safe Routes to School committee conducted bike safety checks in the morning and helmet checks/fittings all day. The event also featured a coloring contest with prizes — bike locks — awarded to one student in each grade.

Our Redeemer Lutheran

Our Redeemer Lutheran School ranked number 20 on the Top 50 Best Middle Schools in the United States in the www.TheBestSchools.com announcement that was published last week. The article stated, "The schools in this ranking have found a way to provide seventh- and eighth-graders with a rich school experience that prepares them superbly well for high school, college and life."

Roosevelt Elementary

There will be a Mad Hot Ballroom and Tap performance during an all-school assembly Thursday, May 8, at 2:45 p.m. The 2014 Danceworks Mad Hot Ballroom and Tap Competition will take place Saturday, May 17 at the BMO Harris Bradley Center. MHBT integrates tap and ballroom dance classes into the regular school curriculum.

Underwood Elementary

First- and third-graders will take a visit to the Fire Safety House on Thursday, May 15.

Washington Elementary

Aspiring dancers, singers, musicians and comedians will be among the performers at the Variety Show Friday, May 9, at 7 p.m.

Wauwatosa East High

Students had an opportunity to get rid of the winter slump and enjoy a friendly game of kickball for Field Day after school Wednesday, May 7.

Wauwatosa Montessori

Parents had the opportunity to visit classrooms with their children to learn about the experiences the students are engaged in throughout the school day for Follow Your Child Night, Tuesday, May 6.

Wauwatosa STEM

Second- and third-graders will see a performance of "Nancy Drew and The Biggest Case Ever" Thursday, May 8, at the First Stage Children's Theater to supplement in-class study of literature and mystery.

Wauwatosa West High

The talent show on Saturday, May 10, at 7 p.m. will feature a variety of musical and spoken word performances, including rap, vocal score with guitar, 3-piece band, song with piano, hip-hop dance solo, mallet ensemble and vocal and piano solos.

Whitman Middle

Eighth-grade German students from Whitman and Longfellow will take a trip to Concordia Language Villages in northern Minnesota on Thursday, May 8. The students will stay at "Waldsee," speaking only German, eating German foods, singing and dancing to German music and learning about the culture of German-speaking countries. The Concordia Language Villages presents programs in other languages, always with the focus on full immersion in the culture and language.
