Slim McGinn's name is synonymous with Milwaukee's Irish pubs. Whether he's served you a drink or you've dined and tipped a pint or two at one of his locally known, self-titled establishments, you've probably come across his name. In March of 2009, he finally brought the Slim McGinn name to Brookfield.

McGinn formerly owned Slim McGinn's in the Fifth Ward and then on Bluemound Road. He sold those businesses several years ago and opened up Slim McGinn's West at Hampton and Lisbon roads in the northeast corner of Brookfield, across the street from Menomonee Falls.

A proud graduate of Marquette University, McGinn gained his share of bar "experience" at a variety of Milwaukee watering holes.

McGinn's West has a warm, homey feel that is both energetic and welcoming. On a Monday night visit, when many restaurants have little if any business, McGinn's West was absolutely bustling. The dining room wraps around the serpentine bar, where patrons are either watching the many giant-screen TVs or engaging in conversation.

Hands-down, McGinn's is best known for its appetizer Reuben Rolls ($7.50). During the 11-day run at State Fair, McGinn's sells more than 15,000 of them at three stands. Another popular item is the Friday fish fry ($8.50 to $14.95), which features potato pancakes. Shepherd's pie ($9.75), a traditional Irish entrée, is definitely popular among McGinn's customers.

No matter what you call it, Slim McGinn's West can appeal to all ages - must be that Irish hospitality.
