Wauwatosa East, West win Tommy Awards

Both Wauwatosa high schools took home Tommy Awards for their spring musical productions this month.

Each high school received its second consecutive Outstanding Musical award for East's production of "Thoroughly Modern Millie," directed by Kate Sarner, and West's production of "Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat," directed by Adam Steffan.

Sixty-six productions were reviewed by theater professionals and performing arts educators through the Overture Center in Madison, the initiative that sponsors the Tommy Awards program.

Three performers from "Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat" also won individual awards: Phoebe Albert, as narrator, and Aidan Gabriel, as Joseph, won Outstanding Lead Performer and Lydia Berggruen won the Spirit Award.

East students in "Thoroughly Modern Millie" won Oustanding Lead Performer awards — Sidney Rakowiecki, as Dorothy Brown, and Dana Strothenke, as Millie Dillmount. Nick Jemison won for Outstanding Dance Performer; Claire Manske won the Spirit Award.
