Wauwatosa Police Report: Oct. 31

BURGLARY

1A screen door was cut and a house burglarized in the 2700 block of North 117th Street between Oct. 4 and 18. The only missing item was a 150-piece set of silver-plated flatware valued at $300.

2A laptop computer, television and hats were taken from a house in the 12000 block of West Potter Road between 8 a.m. and 9:30 p.m. Oct. 23. The suspects smashed a small window on the front door to gain entrance. Total loss is $740.

3Two flat-screen televisions, total value of $500, were taken from the 7400 block of West Center Street between 8:30 a.m. and 2:15 p.m. Oct. 23.

4A man reported a bike from his unlocked garage in the 2500 block of Lefeber Avenue between 5 p.m. Oct. 24 and 8:47 a.m. Oct. 25. The bike had already been recovered by police when the man called it in.

5A laptop computer was taken from a home in the 2300 block of North 63rd Street between 7 a.m. and 7:30 p.m. Oct. 26. The suspects cut a screen out of a side window to gain access. The laptop is worth $500.

THEFT

6A man called police after he noticed several paint purchases that he didn't approve from Morts Painting, 7326 W. North Ave., between July 9 and 16. The man suspects his former employee of buying the paint to use on his new business. The suspect had purchased $710 worth of paint after he was fired.

7A 23-year-old Milwaukee man was arrested for taking a pair of sunglasses valued at $140 from Solstice at Mayfair, 2500 N. Mayfair Road, at 3:16 p.m. Oct. 21.

8A woman reported her credit cards were taken and used for fraudulent transactions at 10 a.m. Oct. 22. She believes she left her wallet at Sendik's, 2400 N. Mayfair Road. The total amount of the transactions was $1,090 and her wallet and contents were valued at $150.

9An unattended cash register was pried open and $181 worth of change was taken from the Boston Store, 2400 N. Mayfair Road, between 7:45 and 7:50 p.m. Oct. 24. When employees found the suspect, he ran out to a car and drove off. He is described as a bald, black man between 5 feet 7 inches and 5 feet 8 inches tall, 165-170 pounds with a bandage on his hand and in his late 20s.

10A gas furnace was taken from a residence in the 400 block of North 68th Street at 10:25 a.m. Oct. 25. The victim was doing a total remodel of his home and invited people from Craigslist to take items from the house. The man said not to take the new, high-efficiency gas furnace, valued at $300. The man didn't notice the furnace was taken at first due to the high number of people in the home.

11A checkbook was taken from an unlocked vehicle in the 900 block of North 87th Street between 12:10 and 1:15 p.m. Oct. 25. The suspects later cashed a check for $250.

12Two Milwaukee men, ages 21 and 20, and a 14-year-old Milwaukee boy were arrested for retail theft at Target, 3900 N. 124th St., at 2:04 p.m. Oct. 25. The three cut out game controllers and headphones using scissors in the bathroom. Loss is estimated at $392.

13An employee stopped the theft of a television valued at $430 from Target, 3900 N. 124th St., at 12:48 p.m. Oct. 26. The employee had noticed a man who looked like a person he had previously stopped from stealing televisions try to leave the store with one, so he told him to go to the security office. The man obliged at first, but ran into a waiting getaway car and escaped. Police have suspects and are following up on the case.

14A 2003 Toyota Sienna was stolen from a driveway in the 2100 block of North 67th Street between 2 and 8:59 p.m. Oct. 26. The vehicle was found in crashed into a pole in Milwaukee at 12:52 a.m. Oct. 27.

15A 55-year-old Milwaukee man was arrested for taking $490 of jewelry from Macy's at Mayfair, 2500 N. Mayfair Road, at 4:25 p.m. Oct. 27. The suspect had two open warrants and six prior convictions for retail theft.

16A 19-year-old Milwaukee man was arrested for taking $810 from Silver Expressions, 2500 N. Mayfair Road, at 10:02 p.m. Oct. 28. The suspect was caught after a quick foot chase and has a prior retail theft arrest.

Police responded to seven thefts of items valued at less than $100 this week.

ACCIDENTS

17A 62-year-old man was treated for injuries he suffered after his vehicle was hit by a vehicle that ran a red light at the intersection of Bluemound and Mayfair roads at 8:19 a.m. Oct. 26. The driver of the first vehicle was a 29-year-old man who was issued a citation for operating a motor vehicle without capable breaks.

18A 45-year-old woman was taken to Froedtert Hospital after the car she was riding in was rear-ended by a 17-year-old man at the intersection of U.S. Hwy 45 and Capitol Drive at 6:38 p.m. Oct. 26. The vehicle she was riding in was hit because it stopped to avoid a third vehicle that went through a red light.

VANDALISM

19Rocks were thrown through three windows in a house on the 450 block of North 103rd Street at 6:25 p.m. Oct. 20. The total damage is $150 and there are no suspects.

20A vehicle's window was smashed, but nothing taken from it at the Pick 'n Save parking lot, 6950 W. State St., between 12:45 and 5:45 p.m. Oct. 21.

21A mailbox was broken for the third time in the 10000 block of West Courtland Avenue between 3:15 and 4:45 p.m. Oct. 21. Damage is estimated at $40.

22Two tires were slashed in the 7300 block of Saint James Street between 10 p.m. Oct. 22 and 6 a.m. Oct. 23. Damage is estimated at $200.

OTHER

23A 37-year-old woman was taken to Froedtert Hospital after being bit twice by a dog in the 2200 block of North 73rd Street at 11 a.m. Oct. 22. The wounds weren't bleeding, but the dog was not up on its vaccinations and was ordered to be quarantined.

24A 58-year-old man was arrested for masturbating while on a pay phone in the 700 block of North Mayfair Road at 1:09 p.m. Oct. 23. The man said that his wife regularly checks his cellphone, which is why he has taken to using payphones to call sex lines.

25Two counterfeit $20 bills were passed at Baskin Robbins, 1417 Wauwatosa Ave., between 6 and 10 p.m. Oct. 23. The bills did not have a security strip or watermarks.

26Two people called police after noticing two children were locked in a car for 53 minutes in a parking lot in the 2200 block of North Mayfair Road at 1:14 p.m. Oct. 25. The children were ages 2 and 7 months. The woman was in a meeting because she had recently lost her job and stated that she had checked on her children multiple times.

Police responded to one domestic disturbance call in the last week.
