Police report: Dec. 14

BURGLARY

1Copper pipe valued at $4,000 was taken from a vacant home in the 2300 block of North 60th Street between 2 p.m. Dec. 4 and 7 p.m. Dec. 6. A door had been forced open and the wall and ceiling drywall broken through.

THEFT

2Beer, liquor and wine valued at more than $32,000 went missing from McCormick & Schmick's, 2550 N. Mayfair Road, between Jan. 1 and Nov. 2. The manager had left a few weeks prior, but he left a letter saying the discrepancy in inventory predated his start two years ago and company executives were aware of the problems.

A Wauwatosa man learned he was the victim of identity theft when his automatic withdrawal to pay his cell phone bill removed $471 from his account, nearly four times his regular payment, on Dec. 1. He called AT&T and learned someone had opened five lines using his account.

3A wallet was taken from a purse at Berlitz Language Center, 2675 N. Mayfair Road, between 1 and 2 p.m. Dec. 5. A debit card was used to make fraudulent charges totaling $477 at Mayfair.

4A man took copper tubing valued at $448 from The Home Deport, 4100 N. 124th St., at 4:05 p.m. Dec. 5. He was stopped at the door, he said he had planned to return the merchandise but his boss had called and told him not to. As an employee tried to verify the suspect's story, he left the store. Store employees said copper tubing with the Wauwatosa store's identification on it has been turned in at a Walworth County scrap yard.

5Tools valued at $400 were taken from a work van parked in a driveway in the 9800 block of West Grantosa Drive between 11 p.m. Dec. 5 and 5 a.m. Dec. 6. A lock had been damaged.

A Wauwatosa resident's credit card was used to make fraudulent online purchases totaling $1,610 on Dec. 6.

6Two men tried to take clothing from Boston Store at Mayfair Mall, 2500 N. Mayfair Road, at 8:55 p.m. Dec. 6. The two were confronted as they left the store by an employee who was able to recover merchandise, valued at $422, including jeans, a jacket and a hat. The two left before they could be arrested.

7A 53-year-old Milwaukee man was arrested for retail theft after he took eight bottles of vodka valued at $203 from Pick 'n Save, 6950 W. State St., at 12:48 p.m. Dec. 6. He tried to board a Milwaukee County bus carrying a large backpack filled with bottles.

8A 20-year-old Milwaukee woman was arrested for retail theft after she was seen taking a ring set, valued at $100, at the end of her work shift at Macy's at Mayfair Mall at 9:45 p.m. Dec. 6.

9A school-issued electronic tablet, valued at $500, was taken from a classroom at Wauwatosa East High School, 7500 W. Milwaukee Ave., between 1:20 p.m. and 2:11 p.m. Dec. 7.

10A 17-year-old Milwaukee boy was arrested for retail theft at Macy's at 3:34 p.m. Dec. 7 when he tried to leave the store with two pairs of jeans valued at $116 in a foil-lined bag.

11A woman tried to take a pair of jeans valued at $148 from The Buckle at Mayfair Mall at 6 p.m. Dec. 7. She concealed the clothing in a foil-lined purse. An employee confronted her, so she handed over the jeans and ran.

12A 36-year-old Milwaukee woman was arrested for retail theft after she failed to pay for 49 grocery items valued at $224 at Pick 'n Save, 6950 W. State St., at 6:01 p.m. Dec. 7. She paid for a few items with her food stamps card but bagged up the rest without scanning or paying for them in the self-checkout. Her sister also failed to scan items valued at $150, but when an employee checked her receipt, she returned to the checkout and paid for all of the items.

13Clothing and a toy, valued at $345, were taken from a vehicle at Kmart, 3201 N. Mayfair Road, prior to 6:10 p.m. Dec. 8. The owner had left newly purchased gift items in her car while she shopped and returned to her vehicle to find the trunk open.

14A 1996 Dodge Ram 1500 van that had been stolen from Milwaukee was recovered in the 500 block of North 104th Street at 3:20 p.m. Dec. 9.

15A woman's debit card was taken while she shopped at Mayfair Mall between 5:45 and 10 p.m. Dec. 9. She received a fraud alert from her bank stating her card had been used to make charges totaling $828 at Macy's and Victoria's Secret.

16Tools, batteries and an electric voltage meter, valued at $1,920, were taken from a van in the 4400 block of North 105th Street between 7 p.m. Dec. 9 and 11 a.m. Dec. 10. A lock had been pried open.

17A catalytic converter valued at $300 was taken from a van at Watts Communications, 149 N. 120th St., between 10:30 p.m. Dec. 9 and 10:15 p.m. Dec. 12.

18Both side mirrors valued at $200 were removed from a Mercedes sport utility vehicle at Mayfair Mall prior to 7:10 p.m. Dec. 10.

19A wallet and camera, valued at $112, were taken from a shopper's purse at Barnes & Noble at Mayfair Mall about 2:20 p.m. Dec. 11. She recalled being bumped numerous times while copying down a recipe from a book. Her credit cards were used to make $325 in fraudulent charges at Target in Wauwatosa.

20A 21-year-old Milwaukee woman was arrested for retail theft at Macy's after she concealed clothing valued at $178 in a shopping bag from a different store at 2:44 p.m. Dec. 11.

21A purse, cell phone, external hard drive, clothing and cash, valued at $979, were taken from a vehicle at Pine Lawn Memorial Park, 10700 W. Capitol Drive, between 3 and 3:10 p.m. Dec. 11. A window had been broken.

Police responded to 17 thefts of items valued at less than $100 in the past week.

DRUG POSSESSION

22A 20-year-old Milwaukee man was arrested for marijuana possession and causing injury while driving under the influence of an illegal substance in the 10900 block of West Capitol Drive after he was involved in a traffic accident at 9:04 a.m. Dec. 9. He had 16.62 grams of the drug packaged in eight small bags. He said he bought it for himself but made it known to his co-workers that he would sell to them. He had been driving more than twice the speed limit and struck another vehicle, causing it to mount a fire hydrant. The other driver had non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to a hospital by paramedics.

DRUNKEN DRIVING

23A 52-year-old Pewaukee man was arrested for drunken driving and hit-and-run after his sport utility vehicle knocked down two city light poles in the 12200 block of Underwood Parkway at 11:51 a.m. Dec. 5. The vehicle had heavy front-end damage but was left at the scene unoccupied. When the driver was found walking in the parkway he said he hadn't been driving. Then he started limping and complained of chest pains. West Allis paramedics responded and police took the man to Wisconsin Heart Hospital, where he refused treatment. His blood alcohol content was 0.17.

VANDALISM

24Door windows and locks were broken, causing $500 in damage, on a work van in the 3100 block of Menomonee River Parkway between 6:30 p.m. Dec. 5 and 7:45 a.m. Dec. 6.

25A Hartford man was arrested for vandalism after causing $100 in damage to a doorstop at the Center for Diagnostic Imaging, 2445 N. Mayfair Road, at 3:15 p.m. Dec. 6. The man slammed the door after becoming angry because staff didn't immediately provide him records.

26Wash basin drains were clogged and water left running in an attempt to flood the laundry room at Normandy Village Apartments, 2570 N. 124th St., between 5 p.m. Dec. 8 and 9 a.m. Dec. 9. The basement floor drain was covered with sealant. Managers said they've found the wash basins left on full blast with lint, garbage and debris stuffed in the drains at least three times prior. At 4:30 p.m. Dec. 11, multiple tenants said the electricity was out. Coins had been placed in a breaker box, short-circuiting electrical service.

27A chunk of asphalt was thrown through a window at a home in the 6700 block of West Wells Street at 5:25 p.m. Dec. 8.

OTHER

28A counterfeit $20 bill was deposited at Wells Fargo, 2675 N. Mayfair Road, as part of the morning bank deposit by Caribou Coffee in Brookfield about 9:30 a.m. Dec. 5. The ink and printing appeared heavy and weren't centered on the bill, and the security strip and other identifying marks were missing. Caribou Coffee planned to file its own report with Brookfield police.

29A 19-year-old Greenfield man was arrested for possession of drug paraphernalia and on two traffic warrants with the Mequon Police Department after he was seen sitting in his vehicle smoking what appeared to be marijuana at Mayfair Mall at 7:33 p.m. Dec. 6. Police found two glass pipes and a grinder in the vehicle. The man was smoking K2, a synthetic form of marijuana.

30A 17-year-old Wauwatosa boy was arrested for drug paraphernalia possession and a second 17-year-old Wauwatosa boy was arrested for underage tobacco possession after staff said they smelled of marijuana at Wauwatosa Alternative School, 2250 N. 122nd St., at 9 a.m. Dec. 7. A glass pipe and cigarettes were found.

31A 19-year-old Milwaukee man was arrested for prowling after he was seen looking into windows of vehicles in the 9000 block of West North Avenue at 10:24 p.m. Dec. 7.

32A man forged a check, which turned out to be a copy, and cashed it for $629 at M&I Bank, 7501 W. North Ave., at 9:50 a.m. Dec. 8.

33A man tried to pay with a counterfeit $100 bill at DSW Designer Shoe Warehouse, 2265 N. Mayfair Road, at 8:31 p.m. Dec. 9. The cashier noticed a strange feel to the paper and saw that the watermark didn't look right. He returned the bill to the customer, who asked the clerk to hold the shoes for him.

34A 44-year-old Milwaukee man was arrested for drug paraphernalia possession after he was found with a crack pipe at Days Inn, 11811 W. Bluemound Road, at 6:21 p.m. Dec. 10. Police ran the license plate on his vehicle and saw a notice that he was missing and suicidal, saying he threatened to overdose on heroin. The man denied he had any drugs but empty bags and squares of foil with drug remnants were found in his vehicle.

Police responded to one domestic violence incident in the past week.
