Football: East falls behind early, then struggles in loss to Falls

Sept. 5, 2012

After getting the season off on the right foot with a 27-21 overtime victory over Delavan-Darien two weeks ago, things didn't go well in the Greater Metro Conference opener at Menomonee Falls on Friday, a 49-0 defeat.

The stout Menomonee Falls defense held the Red Raiders offense to 181 total yards (93 rushing and 88 passing) and forced four turnovers. The Indians capitalized with touchdowns on three of four turnovers and stampeded their way to 396 yards on the ground.

The Red Raiders defense couldn't handle the Indians, who had seven rushing touchdowns, all ranging from 17 to 88 yards.

Christian Almonte had 142 yards and Jason Precia added 110 yards to lead the Falls rushing attack.

Running back Marcus Smith was the Red Raiders top rusher with 59 yards and wide receiver Kyle Vnuk had 50 yards on his only reception. Starting quarterback Christian Tolbert was only 4-for-10 for 49 yards.

Falls led 21-0 after one quarter and 49-0 at halftime.

The Red Raiders have now lost 24 conference games in a row going back to Oct. 10, 2008, when they defeated West Allis Central, 42-38, on the road. The last home GMC win came the week before, a 37-35 win over Brookfield East.
