Wauwatosa swimmers tie for third at Rocket Invite

Wauwatosa defeated Greendale/Greenfield, 94-90, in a dual meet on Jan. 8 at home and tied for third at the Rocket Invitational on Saturday at South Milwaukee.

The Hurricanes only had three event winners, but they finished second in nine events.

"It was a close one," Tosa coach Heidi Goetsch said. "They are really strong, but we just have the depth that they are missing."

Event winners were freshman Danny Larson in the 50-yard freestyle (23.02 seconds), Kellen Moye in 1-meter diving (135.10) and Mike Siverling in the 500 free (5:26.98).

The relay runners-up were the 200 medley relay (1:46.99) behind Jake Falk, Silvering, Eddie Galindo and Larson; the 200 free relay (1:34.11) behind Galindo, Falk, Joey Rampolla and Larson, and the 400 free relay (3:48.40) of Galindo, Noah Froh, Edward Lei and Siverling.

Swimmers who finished second were Falk in the 200 free (1:55.89), Larson in the 100 free (48.13), Avery Weishoff in the 1-meter diving (131.35 points), Ryan Polaski in the 100 butterfly (1:06.70), Galindo in the 100 backstroke (1:00.27) and Siverling in the 100 breaststroke (1:12.66).

Rocket Invite

The Hurricanes tied for third place (248.5 points) with the New Berlin Marlins at the Rocket Invitational.

Tosa had two first-place finishes, topped off by Galindo, Rampolla, Falk and Larson teaming up to win the 200-yard freestyle relay in 1:34.54.

Larson had a big day, also taking first in the 200 IM (2:02.43) and second in the 100 free (49.22).

The Hurricanes' other second-place performance came from Galindo, Siverling, Falk and Larson in the 200 medley relay (1:45.24).

Another impressive swimmer was Falk, who was second in the 200 free (1:53.95) and third in the 100 butterfly (57.13).

Galindo finished fourth in the 100 backstroke (58.24) and sixth in the 50 free (23.99) and Siverling finished seventh in the 500 free (5:28.33) and eighth in the 100 breaststroke (1:11.52).

Lei and Jonah Robison, both seniors, and Froh and Siverling, both juniors, placed sixth in the 400 free relay (3:47.34).

Muskego won the event with 427 points and Franklin was second (276).

"This was a fun and close meet with New Berlin," Goetsch said. "I am happy with where we are performing at this point in the season and very proud after a third-place overall finish."

The Hurricanes will hold a nine-team Bob White Invitational on Saturday, beginning at 9 a.m. They will then host St. Thomas More/St. Francis at 5 p.m. Wednesday.
