Three Red Raiders doing well with Wisconsin All-Stars

One of the best ways to improve your baseball skills is to hook up with a select baseball team.

It was brought to my intention three players from Wauwatosa East have been doing just that, playing with the U16 Wisconsin All-Stars — Michael Lockhart, Dan Scallon and Sean Murphy.

Here's a closer look at each player and information on the All-Stars website.

Michael Lockhart

Mike was Tosa East's starting varsity catcher this year as a sophomore. He batted fourth for most of the year. He is 6 feet, 2 inches and 165 pounds and his secondary positions were left field and right field.

He had a double and two walks in the Wisconsin Baseball Report's Sixth Annual Wisconsin High School Top Prospect Showcase by Under Armour at Kapco Field this summer.

Lockhart was also a scholar-athlete award recipient with a 3.9 GPA, as he was on the high honor roll every semester of high school.

Dan Scallon

Dan, a sophomore, was the Red Raiders starting varsity shortstop. He is 5-11, 160 pounds, bats left-handed and throws right-handed. He also pitches and plays the outfield.

Scallon batted leadoff for Tosa East, with one of his key contributions was the game-winning RBI double in the 11th inning of a Greater Metro Conference game. He led the team in triples and was second in both stolen bases and runs scored.

Scallon also knows how to handle the bat and use his speed, as he had eight infield hits, including two bunts for a hit.

Scallon is a four-sport athlete, as he earned four varsity letters in his first two seasons in three different sports.

Besides playing shortstop and pitching for the baseball team, he started at quarterback, wide receiver and cornerback on the Tosa East football team. On the track team, he ran sprints and did long jump for varsity track his first two seasons. He ran in multiple sprint events at the state sectional track meet in 2014. He was also a starting guard on the JV basketball team as a sophomore.

Sean Murphy

The third Tosa East sophomore on the All-Stars is first baseman Sean Murphy, a 6-2, 165-pounder, who bats and throws right-handed. He can also play the outfield.

Sean started on his junior varsity baseball team at first base, batting in the leadoff spot the first half of the season then moving to the second spot in the lineup. Sean was impressive at the plate, finishing the season with a batting average of .415. Of his 65 hits, they included 27 doubles and seven triples.

According to Wisconsin Baseball Report schools, Sean has excellent range going to his left, right or when using his backhand at first base. He was exceptionally good at picking baseballs out of the dirt and he has nice long legs to stretch at first base. He was scouted at the Wisconsin High School Top Prospect Showcase by Under Armour.

The scouts were very complimentary about Murphy's skills.
