Team, students to wear orange to support coach

Jan. 28, 2010

When Wauwatosa West boys basketball team hosts St. Francis on Friday, there will be an obvious show of support for coach Mike Landisch, who was diagnosed with kidney cancer this week.

In Tuesday night's emotional non-conference victory over Racine Horlick, the players wore orange shoelaces to show support for Landisch, who returned to the bench after missing the previous game.

A.J. Krause, one of the Trojans' starting guards, had done some research and found out orange is the color that represents cancer of the kidneys. His mom then went out and bought the shoelaces.

Since then, some of the players' fathers, along with the Booster Club, went out and purchased 300 orange T-shirts for the public to wear to show their support for Landisch. The team's T-shirts will say "Fight Like Champions."

The Trojans are 8-3, in second place in the Woodland Conference Black Division. St. Francis is 0-11 in last place in the Blue Division.  Game time is 7:30 p.m.
