The Wauwatosa Spartans blanked the Greendale Panthers, 43-0, Saturday night at Raabe Stadium in Ironman Football League action.

The win puts the Spartans at 3-2 and drops the Panthers to 1-4. The Spartans stay home again to play the Shorewood Monarchs at Raabe Stadium at 7 p.m. Saturday.

This budding rivalry features a traveling trophy - a giant, decorative sword currently held by the Spartans. The Monarchs come in looking to get it back and stay in the playoff hunt.

The Spartans took a 13-0 lead after one quarter, as linebacker Royal Ramseur returned an interception 50 yards for a score and running back Bobby Windom rushed for a 23-yard score.

Quarterback Tony Henner connected with wide receiver Raymon Porchia for a 60-yard score and after an interception by safety Bob LaPlante, Paul Schroeder booted a 15-yard field goal for a 22-0 halftime lead.

Henner then connected with Porchia on a 27-yard touchdown strike and Ric "Hachi-Go" Levy for a 30-yard score for a 36-0 lead. The game's final score came early in the fourth quarter when Windom scored from 15 yards out.

The Spartan defense was dominant in shutting out the Panthers. Defensive ends Joe Flick and Justin Morrow both registered multiple sacks, as did defensive tackle Adam Kujath.

Partnering with charities

For every home game this season the Spartans partnered with a local charity, donating a portion of ticket sales as well as the proceeds from a special postgame raffle courtesy of Long Wong's Sports Bar.

"Our mission has been to partner with and donate to a worthy charity for as many games as possible this season," said Phil Cockroft, director of marketing for the Spartans. "To date, we've partnered with the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation and AnySoldier.com because we want to give back to the community and continue to build a solid fan base here."

Saturday's game featured the Special Olympics and athletes from the Wauwatosa area served as volunteers on the Spartans' sidelines. The Spartans' welcomed Caroline Loose as the honorary captain at the coin flip, David Schmidt served as the ball boy and Amy Keisner as the water girl. Special Olympics athletes received free admission to the game, resulting in a sizable cheering section.

"We were thrilled to partner with the Special Olympics for this game," said Luke Kujath, owner/player with the Wauwatosa Spartans Football Club. "They have a great mission, and we really enjoyed having them help out and show up in such great numbers. Caroline, David and Amy did fantastic jobs on the sideline, and we definitely hope to partner with them again in the future."
