TOUGH SLEDDING?

It could be a tough season for the local sports teams. Wauwatosa East, under new coach Mike Richards, is facing one of the deepest and best Greater Metro Conference opponents in years. Tosa West coach Matt Good might be wondering who he ticked off having been placed in the Woodland West. St. Thomas More is gone, but Pius XI is in along with perennial powers Greendale, Pewaukee and New Berlin Eisenhower. This will be a big challenge for both coaches and athletes and an interesting season is on the horizon.

14 goals against the Wauwatosa West boys soccer team in a 1-2-1 opening week.

Easy choice this week. Wauwatosa East freshman Celia Ripple was impressive in the Early Bird Invitational on Saturday, breaking two school records while winning those two events. Ripple broke a 17-year-old team record in the 200 IM (2:12.71) and a seven-year-old record in the 100 breaststroke (1:07.72).
