West star spiker in NCAA tourney with Edgewood

Former Wauwatosa West girls volleyball player Sam Himmelspach plays for Madison Edgewood, a team that qualified for the NCAA Division 3 Championship tournament.

The Eagles lost in the first round to Carthage. Himmelspach is in her second year there and is the starting libero for them.

West's Ballew on Luther College wrestling team

Micah Ballew, a 2009 graduate of Wauwatosa West High School, is a member of the Luther College wrestling team.

Ballew is the son of Marian Wasierski and Ron Ballew of Wauwatosa. He was a member of the Wauwatosa East/West co-op wrestling team.

The Norse, who are ranked 22nd in the NCAA III, enter the 2011 campaign with six returning starters, including one national qualifier.

Luther is led by Hall of Fame head coach Dave Mitchell, who begins his 16th season. Mitchell, who was inducted into the National Wrestling Coaches Association Hall of Fame in 2010, has led the Norse to a dual meet record of 188-89-6 during his tenure. He has coached 45 All-Americans, eight national champions, four national runners-up, 33 Scholar All-Americans and two NCAA Postgraduate Scholars.

Tosa West kicker on Whitewater's girls squad

Former Wauwatosa West East kicker Jessica Allemang is a member of the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater girls soccer team.

The team won the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletics Conference championship and is moving on to the NCAA Division III tournament. The team will enter tournament play with a 13-4-2 record overall and 6-1-1 conference record.

Allemang is a sophomore defender.
