Boys swimming

The Wauwatosa Hurricanes took fourth place among nine teams at the Redwing Invite hosted by Sheboygan South on Saturday.

The co-op scored 306 points, with the host school (425) emerging as meet champion.

Junior Eddie Galindo won the backstroke (59.06) by a half-second to post the squad's best showing.

The 200-yard freestyle relay of Galindo, Jack Lutz, Jake Falk and Max Brovarney took second place, as did Falk alone in the 200 free and Lutz in the individual medley. Falk also took fourth in the butterfly, while Lutz placed fifth.

Brovarney took fourth in the 100 free and sixth in the 50 free.

Both the JV and varsity teams defeated Greenfield/Greendale in a dual meet earlier in the week, with the varsity pulling out a 100-83 victory.

Wins came from the 200 free team (Galindo, Michael Siverling, Lutz and Brovarney), Lutz in the 200 IM, Siverling in the 500 free and breaststroke, and the 200 free team (Falk, Galindo, Lutz, Brovarney).

West boys basketball

In a Woodland Conference battle with New Berlin West, Tosa West dominated the Vikings, 64-43.

Blake Harvey scored 16 points, leading three players in double figures as the Trojans jumped out to a 36-13 lead by halftime. Austin Jones finished with 12, and Ricky Landers posted 11.

The win elevated Tosa West to 5-5 in league play and 5-7 overall before a loss to Tosa East in non-conference play one night later. New Berlin West stumbled to 3-12 and 5-8.

East boys basketball

Marquette dominated the first 8 minutes of play, and Wauwatosa East's game-long effort to claw back into Friday's Greater Metro battle went for not in a 59-48 loss Friday.

Anthony Carroll scored 22 points, but Marquette jumped out to a huge lead and finished the first quarter with a 23-3 advantage.

The loss was Tosa East's fourth straight, dropping the Red Raiders to 6-6 before a win over Tosa West in a non-conference game the following day.

The team fell to 3-3 in league play, behind conference leader Sussex Hamilton (6-0) and 5-1 squads Brookfield Central and Marquette.

West girls basketball

Wauwatosa West dropped its third game in a row after a four-game winning streak, this time a 53-28 loss to New Berlin West in Woodland Conference competition Friday.

The Vikings were unforgiving from distances, hitting eight 3-pointers to rack up the lopsided win. Claire Radtke led New Berlin West with 14 points.

"I love this team's attitude and work ethic, but we are still learning how to compete and believe in ourselves," West coach Ashley Imperiale said. "Our conference has become unbelievably competitive over the last few years and in order to give yourself a chance, you've got to be able to play defense, take care of the ball, and control the pace of the game.

"We had a few lapses on defense, but I was extremely happy with our execution on offense. We set good screens, were aggressive and had a lot of high quality shots. Our shooting woes of shooting 14 percent from the floor on the season continued and you just can't win shooting that type of percentage. I was very happy with the way Amani Pettiford played and embraced her role of rebounding and playing defense. I was also very happy with the energy and intensity I got from Elise Ditscheit and Abbey Jones."

Jessica Pike scored seven points for the Trojans, who slipped to 4-6 in league play and 4-7 overall.

It gets no easier with a Tuesday battle against non-conference foe Whitefish Bay on the docket, with area power Waukesha West ahead next week followed by league heavyweights New Berlin Eisenhower and Pewaukee.
