February 28 – Pancake breakfast preparation
Birthday
March 5 – Jason Gonwas
NEWS AND NOTES
Meeting notes: Don Nordholm once again celebrated his birthday – number 83 – with his inestimable poetry. John Foley started happy dollars with one for his grandson's first birthday. Dave Eppelsheimer paid one to show he was happy about pancake breakfast donations from the Little Read Book. Bob Schmidt was happy because he had talked to Barb Lauenstein, who is meeting this week at WWHS with University of Nebraska recruiters, despite UW women's defeat of U of N last weekend. Taylor Poehls paid to celebrate the birth of a friend's third son, although Taylor is still ahead in that contest. Bob Gross was happy that the WWHS Key Club is running a T-shirt drive, which emptied Bob's armoire of 52 T-shirts. Ken Snyder paid a proud dollar because his daughter's middle school team won a most-healthy-menu contest. Bob Reinhardt was happy to have our speaker (see below) back in a different capacity. Our speaker, Jill Didier, paid because she was happy to be back to talk to us. And Eli Potkonjak paid a buck because he is happy that Jill now has a paying job that enables her to contribute a dollar.
Jill Didier, our speaker, as noted, said that the transition from mayor to Milwaukee County economic development coordinator was smooth, connecting, convening, and communicating with many of the same municipal and county officials and even with the same kind of telephone system. She is now trying to coordinate efforts and resources to keep business in and attract business to the County.
Member news: We heard that Barb Lauenstein's mother died. Gary Krueger is back in the hospital, apparently because of another cardiac episode.
District news: Lt. Governor Jerry McCormick (Elm Grove member) presented the Club with a Round Robin award. Jerry also explained a pending proposal to reorganize District governance and reminded us that, although the District rules do not permit recalls, he is hoping to find a candidate to replace him at the end of his term.
We the People: Last week's program was presented by WWHS's We the People team. They now are raising money for their April trip to Washington, DC, for the national competition. You can help by dining at O'Sullivan's Public House, 12525 W. North Ave., on Sunday, February 26, 10 AM - 2:30 PM. See the attached flyer for details.
Pancakes: Final planning session next week. We need raffle items of $5 to $10 value. The event is March 4 at WWHS. Eli has tickets and is collecting ticket money. Jason Gonwa will take your order for placemat ads (414-256-5380 or j.gonwa@tcnb.com). Taylor has the Kindle Fire to be auctioned at the breakfast.
Program responsibilities: February 28 – Ken Snyder. March 6 – committee meetings.
Meetings: Tuesday noon, Mayfair Mall Community Room
