August 21 – Golf outing at New Berlin Hills; no noon meeting

NEWS AND NOTES

Meeting notes: Carl Smith brought two guests this week, his son-in-law Jeff Hoeft and his grandson, Kevin Hoeft, more about whom later. Jesse Dorshak brought his son, Aristo, who is home on leave. Bob Gross paid a combined happy and anniversary buck, looking forward to a trip with Bev to NYC. Dave Eppelsheimer tossed in a buck for Ricky Weeks' three-run home run. Tom Schultz paid a buck for spending a week with his sister from Wyoming and his daughter from Denver. Carl was happy about a visit to Harshaw, Wisconsin, population about 1600, where he saw a softball game played on snowshoes before a crowd of 500. Ken Snyder paid a buck to tell us about his family's trip to Dyersville, Iowa, to see the legendary baseball field, but he missed Shoeless Joe. John Foley paid a buck to observe that one of his sons is a classmate of the new vice presidential candidate.

Kevin Hoeft was our speaker and told us about his time in Paris, living with a French family and going to school 21 hours a week. Sounds like he met as many Asians and Africans as French citizens.

Sad news: We heard that former member Jake Jacobs died last Friday. There will be a memorial service at Kirkland Crossings in Pewaukee at 2:00 PM on August 25.

Member news: Dick Bachman is at home but will have surgery later this week. Gary Krueger is recovering from bypass surgery and has hit a couple of bumps.

Election results: Two dark horse candidates were elected in our special election this week. Eli Potkonjak was elected as vice president and Ed Ellingson was elected as director.

Golf outing: Show up at 1115 for golf. Happy hour is 1600 hours, and dinner is 1700 hours.

Interclub: Plan on a meeting with the Parkland-Greendale club on September 25, which is the date of the induction dinner.

Brewers game: The deadline is this week to sign up for the Kiwanis Family Brewer game against the Mets on September 16, any profits from which will go to Project Eliminate. Call Prez Taylor at 262-374-2885 .
