The International Institute of Wisconsin (IIW), an organization dedicated to the promotion of international cooperation, understanding, and a multi-ethnic, multi-cultural perspective, will host its annual World Citizen Celebration dinner on Sat., April 27.
The event will be held at the Women’s Club of Wisconsin, 813 E. Kilbourn Ave. in Milwaukee, with a reception and silent auction at 6:00 p.m., dinner at 7:30 p.m., and program at 9:00 p.m.
The 2013 event, with Richard White, Vice President of Communications with WE Energies serving as the Master of Ceremonies, will salute those that have played a leadership role in shaping the IIW and its commitment to the local and global communities. The following people will be recognized at the event:
• William B. Coleman, CPA, owner of Coleman and Williams, Ltd.: World Citizen Award
• Terence W. Miller, Senior International Officer, Marquette University: World Citizen Award
• Rogelio Mendoza: Expressive Cultural Heritage Award
• ManpowerGroup: Corporate Citizens Award
Entertainment for the evening will be provided by Antonio Garcia, a Cuban opera singer, and Olena Pogromska, a Ukrainian pianist.
The keynote address will be made by Dr. Jennifer Clinton, president of the National Council for International Visitors (NCIV). Clinton joined the NCIV as president in March 2012, leading the network of over 90 community-based non-profit organizations across the United States that works to develop a more globally competent and engaged citizenry.
Clinton, who has spent her career in the fields of international education and business because of her passion for bridging cultures, people and ideas, is most known for developing and implementing strategic direction for organizations and enjoys helping individuals and non-profits realize their full potential.
Before moving the NCIV, Clinton served as executive vice president of The Washington Center (TWC), a leader in the field of experiential education that provides academic internship opportunities in Washington, D.C. for college and university students from across the country and around the world. During her tenure, she successfully led two of the organization's strategic planning processes, secured significant public and private resources for the organization, led a comprehensive rebranding effort, leveraged and integrated new technology platforms to improve communications and operations, and launched an organization-wide research agenda to position TWC as a thought leader in experiential learning.
She previously served as special assistant to the president of the Overseas Private Investment Corporation and as manager of international marketing for the Telecommunications Industry Association. Prior to that, Clinton worked in the international academic high school exchange field as program manager with STS Foundation.
Clinton earned her executive M.B.A. from the University of Maryland, a Ph.D. in French Literature from the University of California-Davis, and her bachelor's degree in political science and French from Marquette University.
The cost of the World Citizen Celebration dinner is $95 per person, with $45 of the amount tax deductible per person. Proceeds from the event will be used to support IIW children’s workshops and the Education Day Cultural Program that is held at the annual Holiday Folk Fair International. The IIW initiates, coordinates, and sponsors a variety of activities and programs appropriate to the fulfillment of its purpose, including immigration and social services, refugee resettlement, citizen diplomacy, and interpretation and translation. In addition, the IIW produces the annual Holiday Folk Fair International, with the 2013 event to be held Fri., Nov. 22 – Sun., Nov. 24 at the Wisconsin Exposition Center at State Fair Park.
