Discovery World and Aurora Health Care Partner to Promote Heart Health Innovations

Milwaukee, WI: A significant community partnership was recently announced at the Discovery World Gala. After more than a year in the making, Aurora Health Care and Discovery World Center for Public Innovation have begun work on development of a “Health Satellite” experience and environment to promote “heart health innovations.” Through six Saturday sessions scheduled to start early next year, top Aurora cardiologists and other medical professionals will educate visitors about the latest developments in cardiovascular research and treatment, restorative/regenerative medicine and cardiovascular aging.

Discovery World annually hosts the Gala fundraiser to showcase Discovery World’s mission and celebrate its accomplishments – while also inspiring the innovators of the future. The announced partnership between Discovery World and Aurora was a memorable moment during last month’s Gala and was made in front of nearly 500 people, many of whom serve as Milwaukee’s community leaders. The Health Satellite partnership aims to significantly contribute to promoting awareness and interest in medical innovation.

“The Aurora Health Satellite will provide a unique educational experience that will increase awareness of the innovative cardiovascular research, treatments and services available within our community. It will also inspire young visitors to start thinking about health care careers,” stated Randall Lambrecht, PhD, Senior Vice President of Research and Academic Relations at Aurora Health Care and its recently launched Aurora Research InstituteTM. “The Aurora Research Institute™ in conjunction with Aurora St. Luke’s Medical Center offers patients more treatment options with new drugs and leading-edge technologies, as well as growing collaborative work with academic institutions and biomedical industries.”

Now in its 31st year, Discovery World has established itself as a leader in the development and delivery of innovative educational experiences for public and K-12 audiences. Serving more than 300,000 annual visitors, the organization provides a unique platform for engaging and educating regional audiences and for promoting community discourse about key issues affecting our region. Discovery World informs its many visitors about innovations in science, technology and engineering and about economic and career opportunities available in the regional marketplace.

Both Aurora Health Care and Discovery World share a commitment to innovation in science and technology. “Cardiac disease is the leading cause of death in our country,” stated Arshad Jahangir, MD, co-chair of Aurora’s Cardiovascular Services Research Committee and director of the Center for Integrative
Research on Cardiovascular Aging.


“Our primary goal is to engage the community and educate the public about conditions that promote cardiovascular disease and to encourage healthy lifestyle choices promoting wellness and healthy aging.” Dr. Jahangir will be one of the Aurora cardiologists hosting the Heath Satellite sessions in 2014.

The Discovery World Gala was held at the Discovery World Center for Public Innovation facility at 500 N. Harbor Drive, Milwaukee, Wisconsin. This annual event helps to generate funds to underwrite admissions, memberships and program participation for economically challenged adults, families and kids.
