The 23rd Annual Milwaukee/NARI Fall Home & Remodeling Show, presented by Kohl’s Floor Covering, Fri., Sept. 20 – Sun., Sept. 22, at the Wisconsin Exposition Center at State Fair Park, will feature a Design Gallery with different Milwaukee/NARI members completing room designs based on Milwaukee/NARI Facebook page submissions of various rooms or area of the home that local homeowners would like to have remodeled.
At the Show, the design will be done live on the computer by the Milwaukee/NARI member, with the computer hooked up to two monitors within the Design Gallery to allow others within the display area to see what is being drawn. The homeowner will be provided with the design that was produced at the conclusion of the Show. The schedule for the computer presentations is as follows:

In addition to the periodic room design computer presentations, several Milwaukee/NARI Certified Professionals will conduct 30-minute presentations during the Show on a variety of home improvement and remodeling topics:
Fri., Sept. 20
12:30 p.m.: “Aging in Place”: John Nehmey, CR, Nehmey Construction – The presentation will focus on how to make a home more comfortable as its owners age, allowing them to live in the home longer.
2:45 p.m.: “Preparing Your Plumbing for Winter”: Dan Callies, CR, UDCP, Oak Creek Plumbing, Kitchen and Bath – The presentation will provide helpful tips for homeowners to make sure their plumbing inside and outside the house is in good shape for Wisconsin’s upcoming winter weather.
5:00 p.m.: “Remodel with a Budget”: Louis Weiher, CR, Carmel Builders – It’s easy to remodel if money is no object, but that’s not the reality most people live with. This presentation will discuss the importance of setting a budget and the steps to developing a smart and realistic budget strategy to allow you to get the project you want at a price you can afford.
Sat., Sept. 21
12:30 p.m.: “Window and Door Options”: Christopher Wittmann, CR, Callen Construction – The presentation will explain the performance, maintenance and costs of window frame materials, offer window glass performance recommendations for Wisconsin’s climate, and discuss steel, fiberglass, and wood entry doors and which one is right for a particular home style.
2:45 p.m.: “Using Space More Efficiently”: Gary Sannes, CR, CGR, and Nathan Wachtl, S.J. Janis Company – The presentation will take an in-depth look at remodeling project case studies to examine home transformations that take full advantage of underutilized space, create
efficiency, and find new space within the existing footprint.
5:00 p.m.: “Energy Efficiency Tips”: Randy Miller, CR, Allrite Home & Remodeling – The presentation will feature information on ways to make the outside and inside of the home operate at peak energy efficiency, with a focus on insulation.
Sun., Sept. 22
12:30 p.m.: “Timeless Design, Seamless Transitions”: Rick Bartelt, CR, CGR, CAPS, CCP, MBC and Matt Retzak, Bartelt. The Remodeling Resource – The presentation will answer the question “How can we create a space that stands the test of time and looks like it has always been there?” Topics to be addressed include developing an efficient layout, creating a seamless transition, using quality products, and implementing neutral colors.
2:45 p.m.: “How to Overcome Remodeling Speed Bumps”: Kevin Anundson, MCR, CKBR, CAPS and Tony Rink, CR, Owner Assisted Remodeling – The presentation will explain that even though home improvement projects are exciting and scary at the same time, even with the best design, plans, and intentions, projects can hit speed bumps throughout the process. The speakers will discuss what some of the speed bumps can be, and offer advice on how to handle them with the best outcome for both the homeowner and the contractor.
