Milwaukee/NARI Home Improvement Council Honors The Salvation Army of Milwaukee County

The Milwaukee Chapter of the National Association of the Remodeling Industry (NARI), the area’s leading home improvement and remodeling industry resource for more than 52 years, presented its annual “Building Milwaukee Award” to The Salvation Army of Milwaukee County at the association’s monthly membership meeting on Tues., Nov. 19.

The “Building Milwaukee” Award was created to recognize efforts made by individuals and groups who concentrate on community improvements and assist in the growth of the home remodeling industry.

Accepting the award was Major Dan Jennings, Divisional Commander of the Salvation Army’s Wisconsin & Upper Michigan Division. Jennings has been an officer since 1992, having served with the Watertown South Dakota Corps and the Kansas & Western Missouri Division. He was named to his current position in February of this year. A graduate from Olivet Nazarene University, he is an instructor for The Salvation Army Continuing Education Program, teaching Preaching and Worship.

Over the last three years, Milwaukee/NARI has partnered with The Salvation Army on its annual Red Kettle Campaign, as well as collected toys for the organization’s Toy Shop that provides gifts to underprivileged Milwaukee County youth. Milwaukee/NARI has also collected non-perishable food items for The Salvation Army in conjunction with the Tour of Remodeled Homes held annually in May.

The Salvation Army, an evangelical part of the universal Christian church established in London in 1865, has been supporting those in need without discrimination for 129 years in the United States. Nearly 30 million Americans receive assistance from The Salvation Army each year through the broadest array of social services that range from providing food for the hungry, relief for disaster victims, assistance for the disabled, outreach to the elderly and ill, clothing and shelter to the homeless, and opportunities for underprivileged children. Approximately 84 cents of every dollar spent is used to support those services in 5,000 communities nationwide.

In Milwaukee County during 2012, The Salvation Army served over 300,000 meals to more than 40,000 people and provided shelter for 1,000 individuals, helped them find jobs, and taught them how to take control of their lives. In total, more than 723,000 people were assisted by over 3,600 volunteers.

The Milwaukee/NARI Home Improvement Council was chartered in July 1961, as a Chapter of the National Home Improvement Council. In May of 1982, the National Home Improvement Council merged with the National Remodelers Association to form NARI – the National Association of the Remodeling Industry.

The Council’s goals of encouraging ethical conduct, professionalism, and sound business practices in the remodeling industry have led to the remodeling industry’s growth and made NARI a recognized authority in that industry. With over 720 members, the Milwaukee Chapter is the nation’s largest.
