Thomas T. Sato, MD, professor of pediatric surgery at the Medical College of Wisconsin and co-director of the Pediatric Surgery Burn Clinic at Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin, has been named Chief Executive Officer of Children’s Specialty Group (CSG). Dr. Sato has also been appointed senior associate dean for clinical affairs – pediatric practice at MCW.
Dr. Sato has held a significant number of committee positions within CSG, as well as educational and administrative leadership positions at MCW since he joined the faculty in 1997. He is currently the program director of pediatric surgery, and has received numerous educational awards. He also is currently co-chair of the medical economics and outcomes committee at Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin. Dr. Sato is certified by the American Board of Surgery in General Surgery and Pediatric Surgery. Since 2004, Dr. Sato has been listed in Best Doctors in America, and since 2011 as a Top Doctor in US News & World Report.
Dr. Sato received his medical degree from the University of Southern California School of Medicine in 1988. From 1988-1991 and from 1993-1995, Dr. Sato served as a resident in general surgery at the University of Washington in Seattle. He was a National Institutes of Health postdoctoral basic science research fellow in trauma and burns in the department of surgery, Harborview Medical Center, University of Washington, from 1991-1993. From 1995-1997, Dr. Sato was a resident in pediatric surgery at the Children’s National Medical Center in Washington, D.C.

Children’s Specialty Group is the pediatric group practice of MCW and Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin, representing more than 500 physicians and providers in approximately 34 specialties who practice at Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin and outreach clinics throughout Wisconsin. Children’s Specialty Group is comprised of approximately one-third of the clinical faculty of the Medical College of Wisconsin and is the largest pediatric group practice in Wisconsin.
Dr. Sato will assume his new role within CSG on February 17, 2014.
