Venus Rising from the Undertow, a film by Karen Lindholm-Rynkiewicz, seeks crowd funding

Log Line: For Julia, it was just another recon job. Then Venus, her long dead partner, walked out of the ocean. No turning back now.

After shooting the short film Venus Rising from the Undertow on beautiful Fernandina Beach, Florida, filmmaker Karen Lindholm-Rynkiewicz went back home to Wauwatosa, Wisconsin to edit and complete the film with a professional sound track. The film begins with an spy job gone wrong on the streets of an unnamed European country. Where else to shoot those scenes than the beautifully gritty streets of Milwaukee’s 3rd and 5th wards. The crew based around the Milwaukee Institute of Art and Design's Student Union, with its classic brick work and distinctive roof line. Other locations were along a mysterious long alley in the 3rd ward and between two warehouses and the train line in the 5th ward.
With the cooperation of the Milwaukee BMW Club, the crew was able to shoot street scenes that looked as if they were pulled out of 1980’s Germany.

A film project is rarely one person. Lindholm-Rynkiewicz would not have been able to make this film happen without the help of the film community including Jessica Kaminski (2nd unit director), Cara Ogburn (Production Manager), Kara Mulrooney (Production Designer), and Tate Bunker (Cinematographer). All were essential in making this project run smoothly and look beautiful. Actresses Deborah Clifton, Courtney Jones and Marcella Kearns, as well as a cameo by John Kishline, all made this project pop. It is for their work that Lindholm-Rynkiewicz is seeking the funds to complete this film.

The final step will be with the help of Independent Studios, who have come on as the sound editors for the film. Between the ocean waves and the sound of the street, the sound track must be rebuilt from the ground up. Independent Studios are Milwaukee’s premier sound and video editing studio. Their work on this film will make it truly ready for the big screen.

Karen Lindholm-Rynkiewicz is an award winning film maker now lives in Wauwatosa, Wisconsin, but grew up on the beaches Florida. Her film shot at Craky Al's on North Ave, the Magnificent Donut, was winner of the Best Wisconsin Dramatic Short, continues to be a favorite of people across the mid-west.

Ms. Lindholm-Rynkiewicz is a high school engineering teacher and, for many years, a Collective Cinema Screenwriting Mentor at the Milwaukee Film Festival. This is her 10th short film with Get Off the Couch Productions.
