Public invited to enjoy Russia's The Kat Trio in concert at WAUMC on June 8

The Kat Trio, a violin-clarinet-piano ensemble from Ekaterinburg, Russia, returns to Wauwatosa Avenue United Methodist Church, 1529 Wauwatosa Ave., on June 8 during the 8:15 a.m. chapel service and 9:45 a.m. worship in the sanctuary, followed by a 20-minute concert in Fellowship Hall. A free-will offering will be collected.

The Kat Trio was formed in 1998 by three friends – Victoria Gorbich (violin), Vladislav Gorbich (clarinet) and Vasil Galiulin (piano) – after their graduation from the Ural State Music Conservatory.

Today, Justin Snyder performs as the group’s pianist. He is a graduate of the University of Michigan and recently completed studies at London’s Guildhall School of Music and Drama.

Both Gorbichs earned doctorates at Arizona State University.

Known for unique Russian arrangements of timeless melodies, Kat Trio performances feature classical works, well-known inspirational songs and American pop standards like Scott Joplin rags. Audiences describe the group’s sound as, “Joyful!”

The Kat Trio has played more than 500 concerts in such major U.S. cities as Los Angeles, San Francisco, Chicago, Phoenix, Dallas, St. Louis and Denver, as well as in Branson, Missouri and countless small communities. They perform in concert venues, college and high school auditoriums and churches, in addition to conducting master classes at the university level.

The WAUMC chapel and sanctuary will be decorated with red geraniums representing the Holy Spirit as fire next week on Pentecost Sunday.

Wauwatosa Avenue United Methodist Church dates back to 1848 and began with 42-members. Today, the congregation is more than 400 strong and firmly committed to inclusiveness, celebrating a diversity of people, ideas and cultures.
